“Troopergate”

After she became Governor, Palin fired Monagan, ( an hold-over, at-will appointed public service commissioner), for 2 instances of insubordination:

1). Monagan refused to sign a mandatory administrative discharge of Alaska State Trooper Wooten (former Palin bro-in-law) after 4 disciplinary finding of misconduct going back to 2002 (before Palin was Governor). These included drunk on duty, tasering a 10 yr old child (stepson) and publicly threatening to ‘put a bullet’ in Palin’s father if he lent his daughter money for her Divorce from Wooten.

“The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable, and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession,” Col. Julia Grimes, commander of Alaska State Troopers, March 1, 2006, suspension of Wooten for 10 days.

2) Palin opposed Alaska legislation regarding increases to the Public Service Commission Budget; and Monagan took a unauthorized Departmental trip to Washington D.C. to lobby the Alaska congressional delegation to support the Budget legislation which Palin publicly opposed
