China Launches Remote Sensing Satellite


China has succesfully launched an Earth observation satellite. The launch of Remote Sensing Satellite No.1 occured at 06:48 local time on 27th April. The Changzheng (Long March) 4B carrier rocket was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in North China's Shanxi Province.

The 2,700 Kg satellite will be used to monitor Chinese land usage, to estimate the output of crops and to help decrease and prevent disasters.

This was the first Chinese satellite launch of 2006. The country also plans to launch several communication satellites and scientific experiment satellites this year.

This was the 89th Launch of a Long March rocket and was the 47th consecutive successful launch since October 1996.
