'Hundreds join' settler violence

Never forget that Arafat, the "president" of Gaza, had his chance to lead his people and proved to the world he just wanted to kill Jews.

For 10 years he was "president" and did nothing to help his people.

There was a UN "peace keeping force" between Israel and Lebanon in the 80's. I was there and I saw the DMZ.

Didn't stop the PLO from firing artilery into Israel almost every day. Not until Israel herself went in kicked out the PLO.

That "force" was more of an observing group than a real attempt at separating the two. Israel basically went right by it on their way in during the 1982 invasion - and right back out past after they ****ed up badly in Lebanon (stirring up the Shiites in a manner that resulted in the creation of Hezbollah).

Ah, so the fact that Arafat was a corrupt, incompetent ******* who happened to be good at lip syncing in peace efforts means the whole matter of Palestinian nationalism is a fraud. Somebody forgot to tell the Palestinians, or the rest of the Arab World for that matter.

Hezbollah, PLO, whatever - it doesn't matter. If not one then the other. They were still coming for Israel no matter what.

This was the golden opportunity to prove to the world who really wants peace. More over, this was an opportunity to make international political brownie points. And he blew it. Guess once a murderer always a murderer.

It is still there..... 13,000 strong and supposedly disarming Hezbollah under resolution 1701 however when **** hits the fan they just get in the way and provide extra, highly-politically sensitive, human shields for Hezbollah. I used to drink with UN lads (often Fiji's finest ) in Nahariya and they thought it was quite a posting, a huge fleet of 4*4's, holiday flats in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and on the Galilee, danger money and out on the lash most nights. I don't know if they have become more professional since the Israeli pull-out but you still see them swanning around holiday hotspots flashing the cash.

There used to be another international peace-keeping force, the british army, which didn't work out too well either.

Arafat has basically always been the less-than-worst choice in Israeli-Palestinian affairs, which is not saying much. They dealt with him because he had essentially dominated Palestinian politics through the Fatah Party, and because dealing with Hamas (mind you, this is in the 1990s and onward) was worse.

Abbas' control in the West Bank will be over soon as elections aren't far off and there is a good chance Hamas will gain control there too. You remember those rockets that would be in range of Jerusalem, the coastal plain and airport.............

And there would be nobody to blame but those politicians who have been stalling the two state solution for 12 years now, If Palestine would be an independent state it would not dare to fire rockets on Israel, cause that would mean war and the end of Palestine.

Whatever is done, whatever lines are drawn whether its solved diplomatically or through unilateral disengagment there will always be someone who can find a reason to fire a rocket or blow up a bus. But don't worry Tony Blair is sorting it all out.
