Oops! 'Osama' on ballot in Rensselaer County

by The Associated Press

Friday October 10, 2008, 3:40 PM

TROY, N.Y. -- Who is running for president? In an upstate New York county, hundreds of voters have been sent absentee ballots in which they could vote for "Barack Osama."

The absentee ballots sent to voters in Rensselaer County identified the two presidential candidates as "Barack Osama" and "John McCain." In the United States, the best-known person named Osama is Osama bin Laden, leader of the al-Qaida terrorist group.

Commissioners for the Rensselaer County Board of Elections say they regret the error but do not acknowledge in a statement exactly what the error is.

The best part of this article is how they had to explain who 'Osama' is... LOL

What truth? That their names rhyme?

"Barack Hussein Obama"

If that doesn't make your cringe I don't know what could.

(Call me nasty names if you want, I don't care and I'm not the only one!)

Bush and Kush rhyme but I don't blame GW for killing millions of Hindu slaves.

C'mon, even Teddy Kennedy stumbled over BHO's name.

I've never called you nasty names. What makes you think I'd resort to that? Why does someone's middle name make you cringe? If there was a terrorist named Allen would that make me unfit to be president?

I don't have a problem with the name. I have a problem with people thinking its a problem (trying to spin it negativley, or using it to somehow lessen Obama's cred).

You personally, probably not. But I'm sure someone here will.

This isn't a Shakesperean play! (What is in a name? - Romeo & Julliet) Doesn't exactly sound like baseball and apple pie.

But of course he isn't muslim. He's christian. Yea, that's right. Christian. He won't side with muslims or be soft on islamic terrorists and their supporting states. No. I'm sure not.

You didn't answer my question. If there was a dead terrorist named Allen, my middle name, would that make me unfit to be president?

Someone, somewhere, is about to be very fired.

Very, VERY fired and probably more than one person because there is no way this could happen by accident, no way "Osama" could be published on one of those things and actually go out undetected, there'd be alarm bells going off with someone. Loads of people must check these things.

Let me put it like this:

How do you feel about a President named Charles Manson or Adolph Hitler?

You always do this. You don't answer direct questions, you respond with a question of your own.

I wouldn't care if someone named Adolph Hitler or Charles Manson ran for president. I'd care about who they are and what their platform was. There name means nothing. Now please answer my question.

If the name "Allen" had become synonimous with terrorism the way "Hussain" is then yes IMO he's unfit.

Cold but truth.

On what grounds? How exactly does a verbal utterance and ink mark decided by someone's parents several months before they were born determine their qualifications for president.

Perception.

Going to be hard to command respect and leadership with an inference like that.

You wouldn't want a President named Bozo D. Clown or Elmer Fudd would you? :P

In Obama's case the perception - which I've said here many times - is that he will be soft on terrorists and sympathetic to their cause at the expense of protecting America. This is backed by his questionable associations and comments.

I acutally hoped he was muslim. He'd be a good model for liberal Islam.

He's about as Christian as I am - which is to say he isn't!

Huh? How the hell would you know?

Isn't there a thread out there asking what it takes to BE a christian.

Believing in Christ? Muslims do that too?

SPOOOKY!

As opposed to a vice president named Palin?
