Incorrigible1 Posted October 20, 2008 #202 Share Posted October 20, 2008 How many plumbing companies do you know that pay income taxes? Do you believe there aren't owners of plumbing companies that don't earn $250K? I don't. Careful that sneer doesn't "catch," and remain permanent. Heath Ledger style. MasterPo Posted October 20, 2008 #204 Share Posted October 20, 2008 How many plumbers do you know who earn more than $250.000 a year? My contractor has a plumber on staff. I guarantee the company brings in well over $250 in gross revenue (I "contribute" a lot to it each year myself. ).

I guarantee the company brings in well over $250 in gross revenue (I "contribute" a lot to it each year myself. ). Permit me to call you bluff on that.... First of all, they aren’t making a lot of money. You may recall that in one of the early Democratic debates Charles Gibson of ABC suggested that $200,000 a year was a middle-class income. Tell that to Ohio plumbers: according to the May 2007 occupational earnings report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual income of “plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters” in Ohio was $47,930. Tiggs Posted October 20, 2008 #206 Share Posted October 20, 2008 Y'know - even if McCain did win the election, with a Democratic Congress, he wouldn't be able to get his tax changes through, anyway. The odds are that they'd let the previous Bush tax cuts expire, with the net result being that people would end up with a tax rise far in excess of what they'd have gotten if Obama had become President. ninjadude Posted October 21, 2008 #207 Share Posted October 21, 2008 But, considering how Congress is trying to tell Joe/Jane Average Citizen that they have to pay more in taxes and reduce their available incomes for the government to take more in taxes, isn't it appropriate for the leaders of our country to do the same? WHatever happend to "lead by example"? I'll buy that. But then where were you during the 8 years of REPUBLICAN dominated congress? Why haven't you been worried about the Billions being spent during those years? Oh I know, when the Repubs are in charge, it's not a problem. ninjadude Posted October 21, 2008 #208 Share Posted October 21, 2008 I never said it would balance the budget or reduce the debt. I said that they got us into this they should lose their pay until they get us out of it. The only way that can happen is with raising taxes. ninjadude Posted October 21, 2008 #209 Share Posted October 21, 2008 Joe clearly said the business would be making $250-$280k. Not him personally. And even that's a lie. It's worth about that much. It does not make that much. He's a repub plant to manufacture a story.

MasterPo Posted October 21, 2008 #211 Share Posted October 21, 2008 Permit me to call you bluff on that.... If you don't think a very skilled home contractor can't bring in $250,000 gross you're living in fantasy land. I'll give you his phone #. Maybe he'll show you the books! This whole line of thinking just smacks of elitism!! No one thinks a small company can make $250k. BTW, we don't know if it's gross or not. To quote George Kennedy from Cool Hand Luke: "When it comes to the law ain't nothing is presumed!" Until we see B. Husseins Obama's actual full budget plan in writing anything is possible. For all you know he may also include the value of inventory, equipment, real property, patents and license rights etc. Don't forget: It was your beloved Bill Clinton that wanted to change the accounting rules so that business debt is paid after taxes (now it's paid before taxes). Who knows what B. Hussein Obama has up his sleeve!

The Silver Thong Posted October 21, 2008 #214 Share Posted October 21, 2008 Joe clearly said the business would be making $250-$280k. Not him personally. But even if he meant himself, is that such a crime?? I gues so. This is how the whole recession started. Your giving credit were credit isn't due.... Wasn't that a big beef in the whole buy out and giving loans to those who did not think ahead? AKA Joe-Six-Pack. Ok so I see that you plan on changing nothing and continue to give credit to those who can't repay, hence Joe the plumber......

SoCrazes Posted October 21, 2008 #216 Share Posted October 21, 2008 What is the magic of $250,000? IOW, why $250,000 of all figures? Why don't your write him and ask him? Get from the source rather than Fox news for a change.

danielost Posted October 21, 2008 #218 Share Posted October 21, 2008 (edited) Why is it that a tax cut for the wealthy is called conservatism while a tax cut for the middle class is called socialism (as Palin calls it)? a tax cut isn't called socialism. spreading the wealth is. Obama wants to spread the wealth. Joe the plumber last night on fox said he didn't want someone else's hard earned money in his pocket.
