<bleeding_heart> Posted April 9, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2004 French authorities evacuated stations on a train line that cuts across the French capital Thursday after the CIA warned of possible attacks, police said. The CIA warned of an attack on Paris' RER train network between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., said a French intelligence official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Subway stations connecting to the line were also closed, the RATP public transport company said. But no attack materialized in that hour and just after 9:30 p.m., police said a search of stations turned up no evidence of a planned attack and lifted the alert. Elsewhere ? In the wake of last week's spasm of attacks allegedly involving at least three women suicide bombers in Uzbekistan, female relatives of convicts jailed for religious extremism have become one of the main targets in the search for suspects. Authorities said the string of attacks, including Central Asia's first suicide bombings, that killed at least 47 people were linked to the Wahhabi sect of Islam believed to have inspired Osama bin Laden. ? Suspected terrorists who blew themselves up last weekend as police moved in to arrest them over the March 11 bombings had been plotting an attack on a shopping center outside Madrid, Spain, a newspaper reported Thursday. A court official said Wednesday that the suspects had planned another major attack in Madrid, possibly during this week's Easter celebrations, but did not give more details. ? A grenade explosion and gunfire at an election rally in Indian-held Kashmir killed nine people Thursday and wounded at least 56, including the state's tourism and finance ministers, police said. Police said they suspected Islamic militants in the attack, and a man who said he was with the little-known rebel group Save Kashmir Movement quickly claimed responsibility. Dowdy Posted April 9, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2004 why would terrorist want to kill the French. They are the ones who didn't want to go to war. It's like the opposite - dont go to war against terrorist and you'll be attacked. Go to war and you'll be safe Doesn't make sense to me
