Rocking backwards in a fit of laughter, this is hoax caller Aaron Davie seconds after he telephoned an unsuspecting father to tell him his only child had 'just been killed'.

Davie, a trainee accountant, made the call moments after the teenager had approached him on a train station platform and asked to borrow the older man's mobile phone.

The 15-year-old had called his father to ask for a lift home before wandering away, leaving Davie, who had been drinking and was caught on the station CCTV camera with a beer can in hand, who then pressed redial and called the dad back.

Birmingham Magistrates' Court heard Davie, 29, said: 'Have you just been speaking to your son?'

The father replied: 'Yes I have', before Davie replied: 'He's just been killed' and ended the call.

Jonathan Purser, prosecuting, told the court Davie, from Redditch, Worcestershire, was waiting for a train at Aston station in the city after attending a football match at nearby Aston Villa when he made the hoax call in December.

The teenager's parents then spent most of an agonising 40-minute journey to the station believing their son had been killed, until they received a message from a friend who was with the boy, confirming he was OK.

He admitted making the call during the brief court hearing on Friday and was released on unconditional bail ahead of his sentencing next month.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of a £5,000 fine or six-month jail term.

Speaking outside court, the schoolboy, who had been bowling with friends and cannot be identified for legal reasons, said: 'I was just confused when they pulled up all panicking, saying 'Thank God you're OK'.

'I thought he must have been a decent bloke to lend his phone. I was surprised and angry at him for being such an idiot.

'What happened was worse for everyone else than it was for me. I hope he feels ashamed about what he did and realises how cruel it was.'

His father, 50, said the phone call was: 'Matter-of-fact - very cold.'

He added: ' It chilled me. I nearly sunk to the floor.'

He added: 'It was the worst 40 minutes of my life. I don't know how I functioned.'

The teenager's 47-year-old mother said: 'I just cried with relief and picked him up, hugged him and kissed him.'

Kelly Edwards, defending, told the magistrates Davie apologised for his actions and could not explain what made him decide to make the hoax call.

She added: 'This defendant is utterly ashamed of himself.

'Were he sober at the time of the incident he would not be before you today.'

How pure evil he is, he should be made to work for his punishment, like working in a morgue or a funeral home.

How about the emotional anguish of the boys parents. I think what this guy did was class-less. I hope he gets the full penalty of charges allotted to him.

I'm pretty sure that's not a crime, I mean in a more literal legal sense.

I imagine him if someone called him that his parents died.

That will sure make him realize what his parents felt that time.
