No offense steve, but, once a $ sign is attached to the 'volunteer' service there will be no youth lynching anything...

..hell.. when people do protest in Britain most ridicule them anyhow and they are deemed thugs and provacateurs.

..just wait... the exchange of school tuition help and introduction of student discounts will encourage the enrollment/enlistment process.

---economics is the IMF's super weapon and using it to bribe nations has worked like a charm... can't see it being any different on westernized nations too...

..it just has to be wrapped differently and smell a little sweeter.

I hear what your saying, but i cant see it happening. We are broke, we have no money. the Government is cutting 10,000 TA soldiers to try and save money. so this youth program wont work. no money. and youth of to day are to savvy.

Carbon tax payed directly to the IMF will guarantee the $ to fund this new program... G-20 guarantees 1 Trillion dollars annually to the IMF from g-20 countries.

And we all know what happens when the IMF loans Nations money... it's owed back, with interest and conditions.

But what's crazy about this is the fact that the money is western tax dollars--loaned back to the taxpayers for interest and conditions.... absolutely crazy and racketeering.

...my head is spinning.....

It'll will never work. Gordon Browns policy makers are living in cloud cuckoo land. If Gordon try to tame the youth of tomorrow the youth will lynch this government.

The only thing which will tame the youth of tommorow is to make them realise that they are responsible for their own actions. Create more jobs at Job Centres so the dole officers have more time to check if people are taking the p*** or not. You know, when a cheat says they've handed in a application form into ASDA, give the dole officer time to ring up ASDA to see if what the cheat has claimed is true. If they've lied, kick 'em off it, one chance only.

If a teenage girl is dumb enough to get pregnant, tough. We tell 'em time and time again to use protection so I don't see why they should get a free house and a myriad of other benefits when they don't listen. If they don't have the means to take care of their child then give the kid to a family who does.

Make jail time feel like jail time, scrap community service and asbos and replace them with military boot camps (Jerry Springer, Maury Povich style). Allow the police the freedom to give the youths a thick ear if they misbehave. Allow parents to spank they're children and bring back corporal punishment in schools (didn't do my mum and dad any harm).

Anything anyone else would like to add to the list?

Oh. I saw the title, "Gordon Brown plan for army of....." and I was having fun speculating. Zombies? Vampires? Female acolytes in thigh length boots and cat suits?

The truth is always a let down.

Micro-chip implants and easily recognizable armbands completes the list.

Volunteer service is volunteer service when there are no strings attached.... its just volunteer work.

This is different. This has a $ sign attached to the signee's signature.... this is how the mafia operates...."I do you a favor - now you owe me a favor in return"

...this is where the banks come in.... the money has to come from somewhere.... gee.... the major banking institutions were just bailed out.... remember?

Ok I went over the opening post again and the only mention of money I saw was that people in university who did volunteer work could get government funding to help pay their bills. Nothing wrong with that. The students aren't going to need to pay that money back since they got it for doing work. So where are you getting the money angle? Because all I'm seeing is another 'class' being added.

Have no doubt the teens will complain (know I did) but it's rather easy to get the needed hours done. An hour a week and you have everything in less than a year.

I had to do 40 hours during my OAC year in high school. And frankly a lot of kids these days could use some hard work. Really don't see how volunteer work = government facist brainwashing.

My high school had a 40 hour mandatory community service thing too. I procrastinated until the last term of my senior year, when I got the screen printing teacher that liked me to write me off. To be fair I did work on the embroidery machine for the school a lot.

I do it on a fairly regular basis. In this case, however, there was no need to. It's about as classic a case of pulling out Nazi imagery out of an unrelated event as you can get.

Incidentally, I am a guy.

Its not unrelated at all..... army of volunteers? I think you are wrong and have misused the term, Godwin's Law :

We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." --Barack Obama

I was thinking, how would Gordon Brown be able to force teens to do community work?

The it occurred to me, there's only one possible answer.

Microchip them and use HAARP to control them.

I'm sure you do. You believe a lot of things. You just don't do a very good job of explaining your reasoning behind it.

However, when discussing something like volunteer work for students, which is done around the world on a fairly regular basis, which many members in this very thread have been a part of, which has never been shown to have any sort of federal or governmental association or control, and which has absolutely no link to eventual governmental control to said government of previously mentioned high school volunteers...

Yeah, to compare something like that to the Hitler Youth is pretty much Godwin's Law.

Godwin's Law is often misused to ridicule even valid comparisons.

Where is the valid comparison here?

This is what Gordon Brown called for,

"It is my ambition to create a Britain in which there is a clear expectation that all young people will undertake some service to their community, and where community service will become a normal part of growing up in Britain. And, by doing so, the contributions of each of us will build a better society for all of us."

"That would mean young people being expected to contribute at least 50 hours of community service by the time they have reached the age of 19. This will build on the platform provided by citizenship classes as they develop in our schools. But because the greater part of what I envisage as community service takes place outside the school day, it will require the close involvement of local community organisations and charities."

Here's what Völkischer Beobachter, the official Nazi newspaper called for,

"We demand that the National Socialist Youth, and all other young Germans, irrespective of class or occupation, between fourteen and eighteen years of age, whose hearts are affected by the suffering and hardships afflicting the Fatherland, and who later desire to join the ranks of the fighters against the Jewish enemy, the sole originator of our present shame and suffering, enter the Youth League of the NSDAP..."

:hmm:

So tell me, how is Brown's idea of getting the young people of Britain to do charity work and Hitler's idea of training the young people of Germany for the fight against Judaism related again? Apart from the fact that both ideas involve groups of young people.

Seriously acid head, even for you, this is out there. Aquatus is right to call out Godwin's Law.

Just a thought: doesn't CT nuttery belong in the CT nuttery forum?

I mean, the whole premise of this -- that the UK is somehow following the US in adopting "compulsory youth service" -- is based on the CT nutters refusing to do the simple act of reading the proposed US legislation and instead believing whatever fiction their nutzy source tells them to, without recourse to critical thinking.

Volunteer work isn't government fascism brainwashing. Mandatory volunteer work, ignoring the paradox of the very name, is fascism however.

...what are you talking about Acid? This is about having kids in Britain pitch in and help out their communities and helping charities, and you think the goal is to steal away people's freedom? Take a deep breath man not everything is some vast government plot.

It has nothing to do with being a plot. People not wanting to legalize gay marriage isn't a plot either. Both are simply misguided views that hamper our freedom.
