The 2012 apocalypse and how to stop it

There's nothing idiotic about learning some basic survival skills.

In this electricity-dependent society it is a good idea.

No elecricity = no food - no clean water - no petrol - no telly/radio/telephone...etc etc.

There...I bet that's cheered you up........ ^_^

Even if you don't subscribe to the Big Solar Storm or other 'biggies'......there are other

things that can knock the electric out (even if it's temporary) like war or co-ordinated terrorist

attack, for example.

As they say, cheer up! It might never happen.... :D (but then again...it MIGHT) :o

Actually Bee, I agree with you. Everyone in my family can survive in the wild. All know how to hunt, what can be eaten and can't, how to find/create shelter, etc. My daughter knows how but would probably convince some poor guy to do it for her.

:)

It isn't that I don't prescribe to the possibilities of big solar storms or other wonderfully horrible catastrophes, it's that I don't think the year 2012 has anything special about it. Like I said, abritray number assigned to a year based on a probable myth.

Early to mid last year, NASA had an article on their site that explained how our solar system is bouncing up and down as it rotates around the center of the galaxy. It went on to say that in 2012 we will reach the galactic equator, which will maximize the gravitational forces powering the sun, likley causing massive solar flares. After a couple of weeks they took it down, not wanting to raise the alarm prematurely (or lend credit to the Mayans, Nostradameus and other astronomers/astrologers around the world who have been predicting the same thing). Anyway, they never bother to mention these facts I have stated. They just skirt around the details as if they are unimportant, as ussual. I am becomming really fed up with wired as a news scource. They always stay safely within the news networks preapproved line of thinking on any topic (perhaps to lend credibility), yet rarely does a wired writer have the presence of mind to come full circle with their spoon fed logic. In this case they not only refrain fron citing any scientific details, but interview a man whose stated profession is to profit from such an event, thus allowing them to have a sypathetic tone while giving ample amunition for the skeptic. Grow a pair Wired!

Bolding mine.

This is rubbish. NASA never put out any such report. This is an urban legend that was cooked up to make the 2012 threat sound legit. No one ever has a good link or resource for this belief and even a quick Google search shows only conspiricy theorys being discussed in the backrooms of the internet.

same here and without technology to rely on people would definitely have to learn how to trust their senses about choices they make. Anyone remember about three or four years back there was a solar flare that happened but it was enough to take out cell phones for like a week? I was in high school at the time when that one happened. Anyways, Technology is over rated anyways. but when it does happen...if it happens...then people should really learn how to plant and grow, hunt and carve, use candles or trust your senses. But also, remember this folks, when technology goes down, so does all the prision doors that's been holding up all our old friends that supposedly went away to camp, ha, ha. So you best learn how to defend and kill too. So if and when that storm hits then prepare for the worst even if the worst doesn't occur but at least you'll be ready for it when it does.

I remember back in 1985 we did not have computers, cell phones or the internet and we all did fine. The EM field that supposedly will destroy these devices only works if the devices are turned on, by the way. So if we all turn off our stuff when the storms get really bad, everything should be fine. No fall of civilization.

You and your family are lucky and in a good position, then. It's in the built up areas where (if the S hits the fan)

things would get really, really difficult. And if the rule of law broke down, there could be all sorts of problems.

The thing is...that the 2012 date is getting less arbitrary as time goes by. This latest stuff about possible

Solar Storms around that year, has made me sit up and take extra notice, regardless of all the other

proposed catastrophic senarios.

I'm just telling you something on survival. Games are out when the Sun is up. Could be a deer or a moose. No Sun, no game.

So there and no such things as nocturnal animals then, and deer's don't walk around at night? You are such a naive person if you believe everything happens during the day.

We will be hitting the "high" part of a solar cycle from 2011 - 2012. That we have been through before. :)NASA - Solar Storm Warning

Still won't be anything like the Carrington event in 1859. Carrington Event

My point is that people are getting excited about 2012 when I can't see a reason for it. We are part of a cycle, or did some other calendar end in 1859 that predicted the end of the world because that flare was more than we are looking at in 2011 - 2012.

The article in your quote, on the NASA site was written in 2006.

This interview with Dr Michio Kaku, a Theoretical Physics Professor is much more recent.

link..Fox News: Scientists Confirm Major Solar Storms in 2012 (4:09)

During this interview he says....

"The physicists are sounding the alert. We made the mistake. We made the wrong projection.

The next Solar Cycle will be more intense than previously thought."

to everyone...

Another survival tip....get yourself a wind-up radio and wind-up torches........ :)

And hope you never HAVE to use them in an emergency.

Fingers crossed, everyone................

Well, according to this article - he states that the mistake is that it won't peak in 2010 - 2011 but in 2012 and it may play havoc with Blackberries. (I'm familiar with Dr. Michio Kaku. Have a huge crush on him.) :)

Still nothing like the Carrington Event. Still part of a natural cycle with peaks and valleys.

From NASA:

If correct, the years ahead could produce a burst of solar activity second only to the historic Solar Max of 1958.

Wouldn't exactly call it an "apocalypse" if I lived through the one in 1958. And I did.

Don't mind the extra eye and the twelve toes.

These quotes are from a site that is for whistleblowers.

From someone who said she is the wife of an electrical engineer.

http://www.projectcamelot.org/electrical_engineer.html

27 March

My husband is an electrical engineer for a national power company. He has just been told that they are expecting an event in the next 3-4 years that will render every transformer in the world useless. They are desperately trying to find a solution to the problem. If they don't, the entire global electrical system will go down. I know this fits in with some of your research. Have you heard about this?

My husband is working away from home at the moment on this problem, and I have no way of contacting him. He is not allowed to carry a cellphone on the job. I'll clarify with him when I speak to him next, but the impression I got was that it was definitely going to happen. He mentioned something about electromagnetic clouds in space that the Earth is drifting into. They are under incredible pressure to find a solution. My husband is an engineer, a man of rational logic. He is not prone to flights of fancy, but this news has disturbed him no end.

See link for more.....

Maybe they will get these 'transformers' sorted out????

on iTvn there was a program about this 2012 thing, and it mainly talked about if a solar storm came it would be strong enough to flip our poles and flipping the poles as well as the earth turn the other way, would cause massive tsunamis about 2 km high. something surfers can look forward too :P

Though they were also saying how Poland where this was aired (i get a few channels of polish tv) they'd be safe because of their geographic location. Atleast the program gave credit to all the other 2012 solar predictions like the mayans and nostradomas along with a few others.

It also said the east coast of the US would be hit by it :P i like New York lol

New York = fav city

You need to go visit the NASA website and spend some time on it. Then come back here and read this stuff again. There is hundreds of fake NASA publications online about the 2012 idea but like I said fake and even NASA has been faced with millions of questions from these fake news looking publications that people fabricate.

You need the Sun to survive. No Sun, no food.

You're wrong. Life didn't start with sunlight. It started in the deep ocean with hydrothermal vents. Archaea were most likely the first forms of life. Life eventually evolved into using sunlight. But it is not needed for life. I suggest you brush up on your science.

I was in high school at the time when that one happened. Anyways, Technology is over rated anyways.

...If that's what you think, then why on earth are you using the Internet? Why don't you go live like a caveman among technophobics?

Anyway, nature is the one that is overrated. Sure, it can be pretty, and without it we wouldn't have food. But that doesn't mean that people had much fun with it when there wasn't any technology, or that their lifestyle was any better. Fighting wild animals for food every day? Having to withstand cold temperatures and/or rains when you don't have a refuge? Being much more susceptible to diseases? Living less than half the time people live today?

As opposed to having guaranteed food for every day (assuming I or someone in my family has a stable job)? Having access to any information in the world and being able to communicate with people from any place on the Earth in an instant? Plus access to any entertainment medium, including my porn?

Nature is nice for holidays, and that's about it. I'll take technology over caveman-like life any other day of the year, thank you very much. :D

Btw, even cavemen needed technology. The spears that they used to hunt for food were (primitive) technology. Without them, they would have died because they weren't strong enough to (not had claws and teeth big enough) take out without weapons. So like it or not, technology was always essential for the human race's survival. NOT relying on technology would go against man's nature.

Survival skills are nice to have but to be totally honest if our power grid fail for any extended period of time, the least of our worries will be trying to find food or water. The main threat to survival will be other humans. Chaos will ensue and if you do not have the means defend yourself and those you love you will be at the mercy of the situation, and other people. It happens with almost every natural disaster and a catastrophe of this scale would only multiply the effect. It would devolve into anarchy. We humans are pushing our planet closer and closer to its carrying capacity and eventually our numbers will be culled on way or another. That said I highly doubt that anything of significance is going to happen in 2012 compared to any other year. Im not going to lose sleep over it.

Here are a few tips I think are highly relevant to survival in a world wide disaster.

- Stay away from the cities! Your not going to want to stay near any civilization hub if it all goes south.

- Learn to use firearms, and if possible own one. This will be a key survival component for hunting and defense. There will be many people out there who will also be armed or unarmed and will be looking to take something you have or need for you and your families survival.

- Consolidate, ration, and only take things that are directly necessary for survival. (fuel, and food)

Seriously though you can be prepared for a crisis without wasting your life worrying about it coming. Life is too short to stress about things out of our control. If a world wide disaster happens take action and keep a cool level head...thats about all you really can do.

Meh, I've lived off of Ramen noodles for about a year during my college days, I guess I could manage 2 or 3 years if i had to. When I run out of Ramen though, Everybody is fair game! Heh heh heh.

Question for everybody: If you had to, would you eat another human to survive, if it came down to that?

Edit to say...forgot to mention computers shutting down.

that hits the nail on the head pretty much. If computers and electricity shut down then what would people do? They'd have to learn about a thing that was invented during the caveman days called jogging and walking. Also they'd have to learn how to plant and grow food as well as hunt. Then there's also this piece of paper that people seemed to forget about when the GPS came out called a MAP. Have to learn how to read those too. Either way, you couldn't use a vehicle because it'd be fired and yes that even includes the solar vehicles too, remember "electric battery". But also people, you might want to learn what it means to learn how to work as team in order to survive instead of working alone. Even though alone is easier because it's one person to worry about but also, it's harder because you have to do all the work and wear your self out faster. But anyways, when it comes right down to it, the human mind is the greatest weapon and tool in any situation. PS: Don't forget how to use the sun to purify your water...there's a few different ways to do that but one is pretty gross but it does work, ha,ha.

Prepared, and looking forward to it. Hope it happens--can anyone say, "Population control"? How nice it will be. I'll actually get to see the stars at night. In all reality though, this needs to happen. We need to be put back in our place, and to realize just how powerful nature is, and how helpless we are without our technology. (Of course, if you know how to go on without it, you'll be just fine. Problem (or answer?) is, so very few people know how.)

Ya and can you list out some guidelines to survival skills?

actually thats not true

here in Australia Kangaroo's are active the most at night and we are infested with them, they are also VERY edible. They don't taste as good as the other main meat products but they taste a little bit like lamb, anywho like i said we are infested with them and they are very easy to catch and kill

blows your theory out the water doesn't it
