chaoszerg Posted May 1, 2009 #26 Share Posted May 1, 2009 I don't see the problem really, Barbie is just moving with the times and tattoos are a source of art and fashion so I can see why they have done it. I just hope they don't try and take it too far because we have already done a baby pop out of stomach Barbie which is kinda creepy, next it will be menstruating Barbie. village_idiot Posted May 1, 2009 #27 Share Posted May 1, 2009 dont forget the communist barbie, the emo barbie, the obiese barbie... Sir, I happen to have nothing against emos. In fact, a number of my friends are. I'm more inclined to deal titles such as 'ditzy skank cheerleader Barbie' or 'arrogent, self-righteous jock' ken or 'preppy a-hole ken and Barbie' dolls. Thanks for the other suggestions though...

Neognosis Posted May 2, 2009 #34 Share Posted May 2, 2009 They gave Barbie....a tramp stamp...? For the love of- what's next? Anatomically correct Barbie? Drunk in public Barbie? Pot-head crack dealer Barbie? What the hell? It is ignorance to associate tattoos with drunk in public and crack dealing.
MirrorImage Posted May 2, 2009 Author #35 Share Posted May 2, 2009 Just to stop all the tattooed folks screaming here, I have several tats myself. My issue here is that it was my CHOICE to get them, not a social trend dictating what I should or shouldnt do. Ive always detested the way toy and childrens clothing makers tend try to make small children look like Barbie. Tattoo and style should be a matter of personal tasted, not what Mattel tells my daughter is cool. I bothers me that toy makers dress toys in clothes that barely cover their plastic parts. Does this tell our kids that the only way to look good is to run around being too skinny to menstruate, showing the crack of your butt and all but the center of your nips? I see little girls running around in clothes that are see through, way short ect, and I wonder, does this encourage the perverts of the world to harm our kids? Its rather shameful to me that toy manufacturers cant draw the line and say "OK just because Paris and the Olson girls have to act like gutter tramps doesnt mean we have to encourage little kids to do the same". What ever happened to Dr. Barbie? The smart, pretty girl that went to med school? Shes been replaced by Hooters Barbie, Looks like a drunken college girl in a bad porn vid Barbie, and Check out my butt crack Barbie. Will my kids get ink? When they are legally old enough to get it with out my having to give permission, probably. My mother made me wait till I was legally old enough to make that choice, I see no reason to not expect my kids to do the same.

Well Matell says they want Barbie to reflect current role models, ie; Paris, Lindsy, Amy Winehouse, so blame them for their tattoos showing when they are drunk in public and all tweaked out. My mother made me wait till I was legally old enough to make that choice, I see no reason to not expect my kids to do the same. I agree with you. My point was, why are people making such a big deal about the tattoo part (when, like I said, kids have been getting those stick on ones for years) when Barbie herself has so many other issues that have been around for awhile - i.e like you said, an unrealistic body shape, and way too revealing clothing? Those are things I'd like to steer my daughter away from; they can cause much bigger issues than a few stick on tats. Other peoples' assumptions that tattoos are on a par with being drunk and crack dealing was what I was getting irritated about. Role models? Honestly? I dunno, my little girl doesn't much care for barbies, but I'd probably not buy her this one. And when she's of legal age, if she wants a tattoo, I'd rather she get one cause I have them rather than cause barbie did. I don't have tattoos that mean nothing, my tattoos aren't pretty and I love them all. And rule number 1 when I have the tat talk with her is never get a man's name anywhere, cause they come and go as they like. If you're going to get a name, get your kids, cause they're always going to be your kids, and that's the only certainty. I dunno. I lump this in with the bratz infestation of tasteless trash that they want sold. $$$'s everything, and right now, women like this are the market. That reminded me of shopping with my son about 3 years ago, we passed a Bratz display and he asked me "mommy how comes you cant just wear your undies to the store like those dolls do? You'd be more cool and comfy!" It cracked me up that he would equate their shortie shorts and tank tops with underwear.
The Unseen Posted May 4, 2009 #42 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Man guess I'll buy one for my son to play with his GI JOE w/kung fu grip. Poor old Ken got blown away last week and GI Joe needs a new Tatooed wisker biscut.

SRCivic98 Posted May 5, 2009 #44 Share Posted May 5, 2009 It is ignorance to associate tattoos with drunk in public and crack dealing. that's true. a tattoo doesn't mean you're a bad person at all. I'm getting a SWAT emblem tattooed on me when I make it on the team and my fiance is getting a twin scorpion tattoo on her lower back with both our names on them because we're both Scorpios. So that doesn't make us bad people. Heck we usually give money away to charities and donations than we do with spending it a lot. So yeah people really do need to grow up and stop their snivering and moaning about tramp this, tramp that, etc etc. You know what you call a person with a black eye? Blacky; you know what you call a person with twin black eyes? A hard learner.
