Another little happening last night. I was in the bar with customer chatting, when Chef shot down the stairs really quickly and sat at the bar with us, which he VERY rarely does. I thought he seemed a bit unsettled, so I asked him what was up.

Turns out he'd just experienced doors slamming and nobody there up in the kitchen and it really freaked him out, so he came down to sit with me for a while. Bless him :)

He's a chef now... he's going to have to get used to that sort of spookiness!

I bet your chef will man up if the ghosts ever start fooling around with his knives or recipes. Nothing sets off a chef faster than that! Of course, if he can't get them to stay out of his kitchen, he might quit instead. Chefs can be so possessive about their little culinary domains. I hope you're paying him a little extra, for "stress & hazard pay," just in case his knives start flying about.

LOL, I know he is a little spooked by it. He's getting used to the building and the quirks, and I think it helps that I live here alone and it does not freak me out at all. He knows if something big time happens, he just has to come and find me, as it doesn't faze me one iota. If you live or work in an old building, you are never gonna be the first- so deal with it, you may have to share. He'll either accept it or bail

Well I had a weird one this evening, early on.

I was pottering about at the bottom of the stairs, which lead up to the kitchen, and heard a female voice talking.

Popped up about 5 mins later and said to Chef "Where's Mum- need to ask her something" and Chef just looked at me quizzically.

Me: "I just heard her chatting to you, has she popped into the flat?"

Chef: "Not seen her since this afternoon, Sarah, what do you mean?"

Me: "I've just heard a female voice talking in here"

Chef: "I've not seen anybody since you went downstairs to open up"

How strange!! We can't explain it. But I know for a fact I heard a female voice!! Isn't that odd? :unsure2:

Man, i would soil myself if i was in there alone! I don't really believe in anything paranormal, but that pub sounds pretty special! It kinda reminds me of my aunties house, it is also very old and has a pub that has been built on, nothing has really happened but the atmosphere seems... different. Everything is stone and there still seems to be a good atmosphere when nobody is at the bar. This thread made for some nice afternoon reading and i'm sure i'll keep checking back. I hope you have luck with the "ghost cam"! :tu:

Hey camo! :)

Bless ya, it's really quite a happy space, and although some people find it a bit spooky, I love living here. I know a lot of my mates think I'm a nutter, a female living on her own in this place, but there is nothing to be afraid of here. Whatever is here, it's never a bad or ominous feeling, and I've never felt threatened or unwelcome.

The only thing that would truly freak me out is a burglar, thief or intruder. The living will hurt you far worse than the dead

When I was younger, it did use to freak me out a bit if i stayed in a spooky old place. My younger mate Alice who I've recently employed as a barmaid/general help sometimes has a girly beer night here and crashes over as we get wazzed and have a laugh, and she won't go upstairs on her own without me, and has experienced some stuff here the last 2 years. But all I say to her is that as her family have been in the village since (looking at census records) the mid 1600s, it's probably just one of her family members of old checking in, and that I bet she makes them feel proud, as she is a lovely, lovely lass. Old head on young shoulders with that girl although she doesn't see it yet as she's only 20, and such a bundle of fun to boot. I'm very fond of her, and love that she often pops in just to have a cup of tea and a chat most nights B)

But she is more fascinated than scared these days, which is great ;)

That's very strange but also very cool!

Could you make out what was being said?

It was so frustrating to realise afterwards, SW!! It never occurred to until I went up to ask where she was, and she such a chatterbox, I never paid it any mind! But thinking back, I never hear any sounds of conversation from that spot in the pub, from the kitchen, without the swinging door open. It was closed

I know you're considering putting in a video camera system, but have you considered using tape recorders to try to catch some EVPs? If you've got chattering ghosts there, maybe they've got something they need to communicate. . . .

That's a really good idea; it'd certainly be an interesting experiment.

That would definitely be interesting to try. A combination of video and sound recordings wouldd be even more interesting! :P

Man, that's the kind of ghost I'd want to be!--the kind that kicks dogs and punches people in the head! You can't get away with shennanigans like that while you're on "this side." You'd get fined or thrown in jail! What an entertaining way to spend eternity! How, exactly, does one go about becoming a "mischievous" ghost?

If u do become a ghost like that could u try not to freak me out? o yeah and help me get all the answers to tests lol

No disrespect meant, but it seemed when I was there and went to different pubs, almost everyone had stories about odd things going on, esp. in York.

No problem. One punch to the head will signify "No" or "False"; two will signify "Yes" or "True." Of course, I'm hoping you're well out of college by the time I'd be able to give you that sort of help. Oh, and you'll be on your own for all the short-answer and essay questions, and I might have a lot more people to help out, so you'd better study hard anyway, just in case I don't show up.

Hi Howjo!

Sorry for the delay. No not yet, sorry!! I am working on that ;) I'm still trying to find the time to research up several things, but it's been really difficult as I work 7 days a week running the place, so will have to wait until I can take an day off to go to the records office, which has been centralised (boooo...I hate that.....now a 30 mile drive to look up census things..... pthththth!!! :td: )

I've actually now got a member of staff moving in here for a few months as of this Friday. Not exactly what I had planned as I love my batchelorette lifestyle, but it helps him out and I have the space in the flat for now, so it will be interesting to see if he gets any more experiences, he's reported a few already but just little things.

I did inadvertently frighten the crap out of him a week or so ago. I had popped for a few hours in the afternoon to may parents' cottage in the village, and let myself in through the main pub front door. He'd let himself in through kitchen/back entrance and was came in through the upper level where the staircase up the upper eating area is and swing-door to the kitchen. I was in darkness swinging my torch to let him know it was me, and did a little growl laugh...and he said he nearly died of fright  Once I started to laugh a second later, he launched a tirade of !%*@!! down the stairs at me, bless him. I thought he'd seen the light and knew it was me!! Did make me howl laughing though, as he's even grabbed his chef's knife in defence! *chuckle* I felt a bit bad :su

But he does say he's had a few freaky moments up there, so it will be good to see if another person living here experiences anything more. To be honest, I am so bushed most nights, they could march through my room with a fanfare, and I'd not stir :sleepy:

Well I was gutted that when the paranormal team came to the pub, I had a meeting at work I couldn't avoid- gutted <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/disgust.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="disgust.gif" />

But from what I've been told so far, the pub is indeed 'very active'.

Just from what I remember as it was a lot to take in at one

They've identified where the pub structure was different in years gone by, which I can investigate to see if that's accurate

They picked up on the man who "is always walking in and out" through the main door

There is a little girl upstairs in the living quarters, although none of the family have picked up on her upstairs, but we don't think it's the same little girl my friend saw and who we suspect was blowing her hair downstairs.

There is a benevolent lady who occupies the bedroom and she is looking after my mate, this is the calmness we have both felt in that room. She's a very positive entity.

They picked up on some kind of activity upstairs, people rushing about, and sensed it was in relation to something quite tragic relating to a family. Maybe the loss of a child or similar.

A lady is there and kept asking the medium where her husband was as it seems she's without him and cannot find him.

There is indeed a man who walks around upstairs, and he is the mischievous one that kicked the dog and was seen walking past the telly and outlined in the doorway. Also this week, another member of the family got hit by him on the head- so hard it made her cry! But according to the medium, when they were talking about this, the spirit was with them and was laughing about it. Apparently because he's a big man he doesn't realise his own strength when he does these impish things. He's not malicious, he's just mischievous and likes people to know he's around, which is why he likes playing tricks on people.

Lastly, they picked up on an entity around the small bar area, and the medium picked up on the name "Jim". This has coincided with a photograph taken in this area, which I've posted below, and they noticed there appears to be what looks like a face in the black shelf.

Now they were sitting at the bar looking at this photograph when my neighbour came in....knew nothing of the investigation or anything that was discussed.......he took one look at the photo 'face' and said "That's Jimmy!", who is apparently a long-dead customer of the pub <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

I know the face there could be a trick of the light or a reflection, but what an amazing coincidence when it's coupled with the medium picking up Jim and my neighbour coming out with Jimmy as the face, when he didn't know anything about the medium's visit.

There will be more information, but I've not had chance to fully touch base with my pal yet. But so far, what an interesting visit it was and lots for me to get cracking on trying to check facts on in records office etc.

I don't seea face in the photo of the bar???

Forgot to say that this place is costing me a small fortune in light bulbs!! They keep blowing all over the place, and in multiples sometimes

But then, if you get an old bulding, I think that's probably to be expected hey? There are wires on wires on wires in this cute place  I don't put that down to anything paranormal really. But this place really does gobble them up at an amazing rate of knots, it has to be said

I just noticed the close up picture of the shelf and it does indeed look like a face! I really enjoyed dreading this thread. Putting cameras in would be an excellent idea!!

Hey Spirit2,

I really must sort out something, I am just so swamped but I will do it when I can I promise.

LOL, I've not had a haircut for over 3 months cos I get no time off apart from to collect the Sunday papers from the post office. If I don't get to the hairdressers soon, people will come to the pub, take a photo, and there will be reports of a Yeti on the premises and it will be me in the background :lol:

That would be me on a good day :lol:

The bulbs that have gone are a mixture of energy saving and not, I just guess this creaky old place just likes to chew up bulbs, its forgiven ;)

Funnily enough, have had a few in the bar tonight, and once again I noticed that a certain spot...people will turn round there as they think someone is walking or hovering behind them. It's also the spot where my friend one night swore he saw a dog. It's just interesting how this particular spot seems to always have that effect on people. But then- there is a door that way to the Gents. So it could be some kind of 'conditioning' or similar.

I'll keep you updated for sure, Chef moves in on Friday so will be interesting if he has any more experiences upstairs in the flat, as well as his previous ones downstairs.
