What could potentially replace mathematics?

I suppose that's technically true. But I suspect that believe that math is `nothing but a thought' requires belief that the patterns and structure you observe in life are really just random flukes, and if you believe that then you can't really say anything about the world. It's true that the sun came up today, just like yesterday, and the day before that... if math isn't `real', then you have no idea whether the sun will come up tomorrow or not.

Hi Sepulchrave,

I agree with you. Math is a very tangible tool, just as real as the hammer we use to drive nails into a wall with. While it is an abstraction to describe our observable universe, it is just as real. There is no reason to believe that math would ever be replaced. It will be refined, added to and so on, but never replaced.

Cheers,

Badeskov
