Skydiver survives 6000ft plunge

A skydiver undertaking a jump over Russia survived a 6,000ft plummet to the ground without a parachute after a signal from another skydiver came two seconds too late. Landing on rocks he suffered a broken back and rib.

"A skydiver from Staffordshire has survived a 6,000ft free fall in Russia without his parachute. James Boole, from Tamworth, said he was supposed to have been given a signal by another skydiver to open the parachute, but it came two seconds too late. "

You're thinking of Vesna Vulović, who allegedly fell 33,000 feet after a bomb went off in the plane she was travelling in. I say allegedly because I didn't know until reading that link that there are now conspiracy theories surrounding the story and the height the plane was at when it exploded!
