NASA eyes water in Moon mission

WASHINGTON (AFP) – NASA on Thursday said it was on target for a June mission to scour the Moon's surface for landing sites and water that would allow humans to work and even live on Earth's nearest neighbor.

The space agency hopes to launch a dual craft in June, part of which would survey the Moon's surface from orbit while another unit ploughs into the lunar surface in search for water.

"We had the original target of providing information back for being able to safely return to the Moon for exploration," said Mike Wargo, NASA's chief lunar scientist.

Considering how small the moon is, I really don't see it having the possibility of water, but still, if it does, awesome. But we're still thinking small potatoes. There is an entire universe out there worth of worlds, and this galaxy isn't going to last forever.

well if the theory of how earth got its water and how the moon was formed, its quite possible it contains traces of water somewhere on its surface.

This galaxy isn't going to last forever. But our planet will be long gone, and we as a species will be long gone before the galaxy is.

I might suggest that a small french fry is highly adequate before jumping into a big fat baked potato...

no, I mean it is kinda strange to see a human worrying about how much time there is left for our galaxy. (being that a human life expectancy is somewhat shorter then that of a galaxy...)

its so that future generations can finish the work we could never finish. like we can asume that theres life on that planet, but we havent got the technology to prove it. so future generations will develop the technology to prove it.

...which seemed to imply that looking for water on the Moon was a waste of time, and that we should seek to explore the galaxy instead, with the additional implication that the galaxy wouldn't be here for us to explore forever.

I was merely pointing out that we'll be long gone before the galaxy and was wondering what sort of larger galactic potato we should be cooking rather than exploring our nearest heavenly body, which of course is a stepping stone to any planetary exploration.
