I seem to remember a fair bit of discussion...<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'm glad to find out that I'm not losing my mind! <img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/original.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="original.gif" />

Anyway, I couldn't find the thread here on UM either. But I did some searching around on the internet and I did find out that the story behind this picture is nothing but a hoax.

The picture was originally made in photo shop by a man named Robert Chang for his sci-fi/fantasy screenplay. He calls her "Princess Ruu". I guess someone on the internet saw it and decided to steal it and create an urban legend.

Here is the link to Robert Chang's portfolio and his picture of Princess Ruu: <a href="http://lunatique.cgsociety.org/gallery/325333/" target="_blank">http://lunatique.cgsociety.org/gallery/325333/</a>

Also here are some alternate versions from Robert Chang: <a href="http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_website/paintings_drawings/new/illustrations/melancholic_princess/melancholic_princess.htm" target="_blank">http://www.ethereality.info/ethereality_we...ic_princess.htm</a>

Kill joy!

Although we have determined that the pic is a fake of what it claims to be, I did notice that if I took deep breaths at the photo, it appeared to be breathing.

Here's a fun trick: stare into your own eyes in a mirror (without blinking) for a couple of minutes.

Ok, done?

Your face didn't distort itself because you're cursed, it only appeared so because thats just how the rods and cones in your eyes work when staring at something for a long time. The same general idea can be applied here. I have no doubt that there is no animation in the video, and that people really are seeing movement, but it isn't because of some supernatural connection. Just a weird little quirk of your biology.

I recently found this video on youtube, and after much research, I have compiled some information about the origin and history of the photo. I found that gathering information was difficult, as this particular picture isn't as discussed or as well known as some of the others.

The sketch is believed to be a self portrait of a young Japanese woman, who supposedly sketched herself before scanning the sketch and posting it onto the internet. The origin of the picture is currently unknown, but I have contacted the creator of the youtube video and have asked for the information required to properly and efficiently analyse the sketch.

If you stare at the picture for an amount of time, it is said that the sketch can be seen moving. Some people have reported seeing her eyes moving, even changing colour. Others have reported seeing her chest moving up and down as though she was inhaling and exhaling. All of these are due to the fact that the sketch is said to be cursed, as the woman commited suicide only a short amount of time after drawing it.

Some have claimed thatit is an animation, however, if you pause the Youtube video, it is said that you can still see movement.

For me, I couldn't see anything obvious, it did appear as though her chest moved at some points during the video, note the first scene, however I saw no other signs which may lead me to believe that the picture is cursed.

Some other pictures said to be cursed -

1. <a href="

target="_blank">Scariest Picture #2 </a> - A fake, but still disturbing to an extent.

2. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOhSov0gGtI" target="_blank">Korean Horror Film</a> - Obviously fake, from a Korean Horror film (?) if my memory serves me correctly.

Does anyone else have some favourites they want to share?

I couldn't stand staring at the picture. It gives me the creeps. I feel like my head is getting bigger. Maybe it is really cursed.

I think to stare at this picture for 5 minutes, you are likely to see something as your eyes will adapt back to normal vision, i seen her face move and change colour but i dont believe the picture is haunted but just an adjustment to your eyes.

It's a pretty picture. I did see some eye movements and changes in facial structure after I had been staring for a while. But that's what happens when you stare at something a long time.

That second link was disturbing though. Urk.

The photographs which most scare me are those of quasi-mummified or even decaying human corpses which often turn up on Crime and Morbid Anatomy websites.

I'm not speaking of true ancient Egyptiam mummies, which are another matter entirely (though I was indeed terrified by them as a child).

I couldn't sit still and stare at the picture long enough to give an experienced response to it...I get bored/distracted after more than 3 minutes of nothing...but I will admit I got nervous that one of those Exorcist pics and loud screams were going to pop out at any moment-
