I dunno...Egypt was a monarchy, and look how long their civilization remained stable. What, 2000+ years? Sure, there were minor revolts here and there...but overall, the system remained the same. It's interesting to ponder why it worked so well for them.

eating up millions of our tax money on a yearly basis, and doing absolutely nothing to earn it.

Totally agree with that portion. It's also how I view alot of subsidies that turn into "entitlements" and alot of welfare practices. Not all, but alot.

But I like representative republic over direct democracy myself. I can't keep but thinking direct democracy is mob rule and leads to arm breaking tactics and such to cower masses.

My my my! Such pessimists in this area! no.gif Well, either way you look at it you're going to call your leader an idiot (whether a monarch or elected)! All forms and ideas of human government sucks (including the over-rated anarchy) so why do we not just call it quits pondering about our government and just live with what we've got? thumbsup.gif

i repeat my earlier comments

Well im against the monarchy, arisocracy and everything it stands for.

Im against a class system that allows these stuck up ponces to float around an do nothing all year whilst they live of my taxes.

And for what? Just cause they were born into a particular family. Why the hell should they get such priviledges.

When your talking about IQ's, half the aristocracy in this country are so inbred that they'd have great difficulty in changing a light bulb. Prince Philip is a prime example.

Would you want them running your country? Personally id rather see a dimwitted hard worker in charge than a dimwitted chancer.

Its one thing passing your wealth onto a family memeber if youve worked hard but its another when youve taken from the needy for hundreds of years and done absolutley nothing for the good of the country ever. Chancers , the lot if them

Thats not completely true. A democracy has be completely illiberal e.g. Democracies in the past have often based the vote on class, race etc. Freedom and Democracy are not interlinked, in fact a beneign dictator could in theory easily make a society in which we are as 'free' as we are in a capitalist democracy.

As for monarchies, as much as they should be publically hung, the monarchy here are not dictators, they are just a tourist attraction which brings in far less money than they leech.

Good Lord man! What do you smoke when you aren't in classes? Freedom and Democracy are not interlinked? You're right actually...they are not 'interlinked'...they are the same damn thing!!! blink.gif .

No, there not. As I've already told you. Freedom is about personal liberties to do as you wish. Democracy is about the right to vote.

However, a democracy does not not require EVERYONE to have the vote, and most early democracies did not allow anyone but land owners the vote. You might claim this is freedom, but it isn't.

Secondly, assuming that a democracy has evolved enough to allow everyone to vote (with exceptions of age etc) then it still does not mean its 'free'. A Democracy of this type would be driven by the majority, and the majority does not neccessarily do good. The majority can indeed use its combined power to presecute and interfere in the affairs and freedoms of the minority. Therefore, again, Democracy does not neccessarily mean freedom.

Joc, you can say what you want about me smoking something, but I'm the one here with a BA in Social Science and sitting my Masters year specialising in Political Theory. You drive a truck. I wont question your knowledge on road-geography, you don't question my knowedge on political systems.

I own my own business and have for 15 years. original.gif And I don't drive a truck! laugh.gif

Higher education doesn't make you 'smarter'. It just makes your head more pointy at the top! grin2.gif

Fine then, I'll add buisness enterprise to your list of experiences.

Higher education doesn't make you 'smarter'. It just makes your head more pointy at the top!

I never said it made you smarter, did you bother to read my post? I said experience in a subject does make you more likely to be more informed about it.

Informed Joc, does equal intellegence. And ignorance does not equal stupidity.

Nor Joc does education result in bodily deformations. If thats what your experience tells you, then its wrong.

Informed Joc, does equal intellegence.

Informed does not equal intelligence. A lot of people are informed and totally clueless. How many people btw do you know who 'vote' in democratic elections but at the same time are not free?

I think it was implied by my context that it was a typo.

As for you question, as I've already stated, you just keep ignoring, a democracy does not neccarily give everyone the vote. And equally someone can have the vote, but not free to carry out an actions only in their interest to there wish.

Well, here the question isnt properly worded. For those who believe in God and such, if there was a "God appointed" monarch, the monarchy system would be heaven. Because then, the monarch could ensure the religious piety that they did back in the 16th century, all while trying continuously to push forth the "will of God." HOwever, in today's society where so many different religions make up the world, i think a monarchy simply would not work...the king/queen would always be hated by a large number of people and loved by a small number of people....

Monarchy in idea is much better than democracy if you have the right components with it ( a just and equal ruler and so forth ) but in practice, it seems as though democracy is now the only choice. blink.gif
