British computer expert Gary McKinnon today lost his latest High Court bid to avoid extradition to America where he faces trial for hacking into U.S. military networks.

His lawyers argued that extraditing the 43-year-old, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, would lead to 'disastrous consequences' for his health, including possible psychosis and suicide.

The guy has guts, have to give him that, but his hacking techniques were rudimentary at best. He seems to suffer from a severe lack of common sense, maybe thats partially due to Asperger's, who knows. Obviously if you try to break into government systems, they are going to know unless you are practically like Neo or something. I heard McKinnon wasn't even a programmer, just a simple script kiddie looking for security holes to exploit with tools that he downloaded from different websites LOL. I seriously doubt he found anything UFO related as the government probably wouldn't broadcast data like that over unsecured networks I would imagine. I would guess the USA probably just wants to make an example out of him.

Why has he not been able to go to the european court of human rights to allow him to be tried in his own country for a virtul crime that he committed there ? The same in Canada we don't extradite to countries with the death penalty either. However his crime does not warrant the death penalty so I think thats why your country is doing it as Canada would as well. He did but his appeal was rejected.

While I agree that people guilty of computer hacking should be held accountable I don't believe a jail sentence of 50-60 years is fitting of the crime - the man isn't dangerous, he shouldn't be locked up for the rest of his life.

I just read up on it, seems his appeal was rejected on the same day, the same court upheld Abu Hamza's right to stay in the UK. Couldn't make this stuff up. Yeh, a couple of years in a UK open prison seems reasonable to me, the yanks are off their heads and Blunkett was a traitor for signing the US-UK extradition treaty that allows UK citizens much less defense than US citizens. Just another shame in the long history of New Labour shames.

He will not cope becaues he does n't understand socal situations and behaviour. Nor will he cope with leaving his familiar surroundings. This whole situation is typical of the government. America wants something and they are too cowardly to say no. The only reason we are friends with the us is because the uk government couldn't be asked to learn french.

To be honest I think america should swallow its pride and thank him for pointing out a hole in their security network so large that the titanic could easily sail through, He is not a security expert or an internet boffin or even a master criminal. He still lives with his mum in her spare room and it only took him a few hours. He was looking for aliens Not top secret projecst or war plans!!

I am sure that the U.S Government will bleed him out and have his head upon a Pike, they will be going for the Maximums and as many Affiances as they can in Gary’s Case, (Maximums) especially if more unknown information is coerced out of him by his integrators, he could be going down for other crimes besides, we see it as Hacking, but the Government may have his head when the integrations are done and over. Hacking is bad, but Hacking into U.S. Government defenses is going bring down one hell and Huge Axe, the Government Defense Lawyer are going to leave the Man with no Blood or teeth what so ever, Especially if there is more uncovered than thus far being said. You just don’t Hack the U.S. Government and Defense contractors, I have seen it done and the outcome a Whole Family completely destroyed when the Government was done with then, all because of one 16 year old Kid that hacked a defense contractor where is father worked, the Kid went down for hacking and his Father went down for (Over a six month period) aloud his son access to his PC system to (Play Games) the Kid had them all Snowed, and he went in deep, very deep back in 1977, they took that family apart, and it is not going to be anything good for that Gary, not at all.

I think you need to be aware of the affects it has on a perons life and those around them. What is happing to gary is an infringement on his human rights. He will not cope in america or a prison.
