IronGhost Posted August 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2009 LONDON – Britons reacted with outrage Friday at American criticism of the country's health care system and defended their cradle-to-grave medical coverage on Twitter, television and in the tabloids. Right-wing attacks on President Barack Obama's health reform plans have struck a nerve in Britain, where residents broadly take for granted their universal coverage under the state-funded National Health Service — and look askance at the millions of Americans without insurance. "Land of the Fee," declared the Daily Mirror in reference to the United States' high-charging health model. The London newspaper called the "lies and distortions" being circulated in the United States about the National Health Service "truly sickening." "Jaw droppingly untruthful," said the British Medical Association's chairman, Hamish Meldrum. "NHS often makes the difference between pain and comfort, despair and hope, life and death," Prime Minister Gordon Brown tweeted. "Thanks for always being there." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090814/ap_on_..._us_health_care __________ The ads really are outrageous. One shows an elderly man weeping over the bed of his white haired wife, and the ad says the Brits are going to let her die because 6 months of her life is only worth $27,000. They also talk about "death panels" and tax-payer paid abortions, etc. They would have you believe the only reason the government wants to take over health care is so that they can start killing as many old people and unborn babies as possible. Admiral Danger Posted August 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2009 well. they would be right to say that the nhs have crap standards. but i think the ad was quite innapropriate and im not the type of person that would take serious offence to these sort of things. randym23 Posted August 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2009 don't blame them for being outraged an imperfect healthcare system is better than then nothing that 12% and the horribly inadequate that 40% have in the US and I am from the US and I have health care through work a desperate populace breeds resentment and eventually violent revolution I think a lot of violence in this country could be prevented if only we had adequate mental, dental and physical care. thousands DIE each year because of lack of health car or the private health sector making choices for people's lives. I know every business must have a bottom line but the true bottom line should be about justice. how many geniuses and innovators have we lost because they weren't born in the right tax-bracket? Bill Hill Posted August 14, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Oh gawd, am I suppose to be offended.? The NHS is in a mess, who stopping the health tourists? and you got more chance of dying from MRSA than the operation. NHS superbug death rate doubles link but I don't know about the American health system... Dr "have you got insurance?" Patient "No.." Dr "Why not?" Patient "cause I'm ill, they won't give it to me" Plus, the pharmaceutical companies, doctors, medical professionals have all been over-charging and taking the p*** for years. The Silver Thong Posted August 14, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2009 I hear ya Britain, the right wingers in the US think Canada is a communist country for having universal healthcare. The BS that they spread as well about universal healthcare is to be takin with a large grain of salt. I just do this

IronGhost Posted August 14, 2009 Author #15 Share Posted August 14, 2009 no silver thong, it is a socialist country Well, that explains that 50-foot tall statue of Karl Marx I saw in downtown Winnipeg last week. It's interesting how people use the word socialist for health care. Our education system for more than 200 years has always been mostly public. Are you sending your kids to a socialist education system? What about your fire department? It's paid for by government funds. Are our fire departments socialist? All the roads, highways and freeways are built by government funds. Is it a socialist highway system? All the police are tax-payer paid. Do we have a socialist police system? For all of you who are so afraid of socialist systems in the U.S., I assume you are going to give back your social security checks in protest when you start getting them. InHuman Posted August 14, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) See, if the dems had balls they would fight against these ads. I mean REALLY fight, full out. But, they wont. They wont even mention that they are not proposing unverisal healthcare... its a public option.. godd. EDIT: I also support ironghost's message. Just think how well our cities would run if the fire brigades were private, and only saved the houses of the people who signed with them. stevewinn Posted August 14, 2009 #19 Share Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) The National Health Service in the UK is one of the jewels in our crown. Its a Brilliant service when you think how many people use it, from free prescriptions to unlimited treatment for life. Only problem with the NHS in the UK is people abuse it, through health tourism, and procedures which were never in the NHS's remit being carried out such has tattoo removal, IVF and boob jobs. I would encourage every American to fight tooth and nail for your very own NHS. When you have pharmaceutical companies advertising their own brand of medication on TV, over a rivals then something has gone horribly wrong somewhere. IronGhost Posted August 14, 2009 Author #20 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks Dr. Alien, Inhuman and Silver ... Siliver, I might have been mistaken about the statue of Karl Marx in Winnipeg. It could have been Pierre Trudeu, but I'm not sure.

My mother had to pay $7.00 a year and if they don't pay the fire dept has to make sure no one is in the house and the fire doesn't spread to other houses or buildings. questionmark Posted August 14, 2009 #23 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Heh, some of the people appearing in the add campaign are retracting on their statements now...this could backfire as being what it is: A Horror Story. Naturally there are unfortunate cases in any system because after all: Humans commit errors, but if we start dragging casuistic to prove that something does not work, the campaign is either aimed at idiots incapable of thinking for themselves or a very shallow attempt of horror propaganda. In any case, just proves what I have been saying about those who call themselves "conservatives" in the US, incapable of using their brains they suppose the rest of the world is so too.
