British sniper describes moment he shot

Recommended Posts

A British sniper killed a Taliban leader with the longest-ever fatal bullet shot in Afghanistan - from nearly TWO KILOMETRES away.

Corporal Christopher Reynolds, 25, camped on the roof of a shop for three days as he waited for the perfect conditions to shoot the terrorist commander.

He calculated the range, wind and trajectory before pulling the trigger - and the bullet flew 1,853 metres before hitting the target in the chest.

The warlord, known as 'Mula', is thought to be responsible for co-ordinating several attacks against British and American troops since the outbreak of war in 2001.

from the article:

'He did a top job that day - but we are all sick about him going on about it and telling us what a great shot he is.' Cpl Reynolds, of Dalgety Bay in Fife, Scotland, is on his first tour of Afghanistan but has previously served in Iraq.

His wife Becca, 29, who lives in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, with their three-year-old son Joshua yesterday hailed her husband a hero.

She said: 'I was ecstatic when I found out what he had done. I thought it was fantastic, not only for him but for the whole of Black Watch.

'He said he keeps on going on about it and everyone over there is telling him to shut up.

'He is on patrol at the moment but I speak to him about once a week.

'This is his first time in Afghanistan. he has been there since March and has been in Iraq before as well.

'He has got his screwed on and really takes his job seriously. He loves it.'

***********

I read this story a few days ago on the daily mail website and was amazed... not because of the long distant shot...

The guy kills people for a job.... and he says he loves it.

What a messed up society we live in..

Why would the dailymail show his picture and give the names of his wife and son and hometown?

Especially after they report that 'he loves' to kill people...

I just don't understand how a story like this is ...cool or awesome.. or something to brag about

Its one thing to be a great marksman with a rifle but its degrading to yourself and to humanity to elevate a person for killing another human being.

It only dishonors yourself and everything westerners are said to be doing on foreign soil.

Video games, television and hollywood movies have de-sensitized peoples brains to the point where killing another earthling is something to be envied.

Where have our morals and self respect gone?

What a shot, i don't think it a good idea revealing his full name and where his family live, don't forget the enemy within.

Because for what his job does? He protects people and serves his country. If he hadn't made that shot, that guy would be planning more terrorist attacks. Not only is he saving NATO lives but he's also saving Afghan civilian lives that the taliban also targets here. But you twist it into something awful just because he's a Brit it would appear.

nice try...

I know you read my post very clearly, him being British or Scottish has zero to do with anything...

The guy could be from... inside the moon... wouldn't matter... well actually .. hmmm... yeah it would matter if he was from inside the moon

You are using a strawman argument because of your "pure wickedness"--end quote

Gone nowhere, it's been the same since man trod his dirty feet on this earth.

No where near the farthest shot in Afghanistan, Two Canadians are responsible for that honor.

Two Canadian snipers in Afghanistan made the longest recorded sniper kill in history with this weapon during Operation Anaconda. On a March afternoon in 2002, the Master Corporal Arron Perry killed an enemy combatant from 2,310 meters (2,526 yd/1.435 miles) and the Corporal Rob Furlong of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) killed an enemy combatant from 2,430 meters (12.0772 furlongs/2,657 yd/1.509 miles) with 750 grain Hornady A-MAX very-low-drag bullets.[2][3] It is the longest-ever recorded kill by a sniper in combat, surpassing the mark of 2,286 meters set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam War.

I got a hole in one playing golf once, so I know how this guy feels,

you can't describe the feeling.

Anyway, I was reading testimony from snipers online.....

some of the lines are interesting...

"Just before the shot, you're at peace and one with the target...."

"After, the shot... I felt like a child reborn again...

Look mummy, look daddy I made a hole... I made a hole and out escaped his soul"

Impressive skill. Snipers are an incredible force multiplier. They kill one man (the leader) and throw a whole unit or whole operation into disarray which results in many lives saved on both sides and can eventually lead to a deescalation of violence. See, as long as the only ones getting shot and killed are the poor slobs on the front line (the barely trained, poorly supplied privates), the fighting can continue because you can always recruit more of them. But when the leaders start dropping, the other leaders decide their own lives are too important to be lost and when the "leaders" walk away, the privates go back to being sons, husbands, and fathers.
