The “spirit or alien” question

Just realized I was discussing zero gravity rather than the topic... :) ... so what I did want to share here was this... http://etmedical.com/adrian_story.htm   and this http://etmedical.com/   of spirit or alien...    in the healing fields..  One would say I was pretty "out there" but I was born the strongest skeptic.. didn't believe in healing.. thought I might as well try to see if it were real.. rather that knock it with no knowledge of it... and the experiences I have had since.. were unbelievable.. more like opening Pandora's box... maybe it is because you know where to look.. your senses are heightened ... I can validate that it works.. during that time I lived in the most haunted of houses.. ( I don't remember if the hauntings started before I went to learn Reiki and  Magnified Healing .. Ki Force.. etc.. or if it happened afterwards.. but the electrics went wild.. toys would suddenly go off at all hours.. ( imagine talking dolls.. dancing dolls.. jack in the boxes.. music boxes.. Fischer price toys that spoke or played music)   Sometimes they went off randomly.. sometimes as soon as people arrived.. and random toys suddenly spoke or giggled.. played music.. It frightened many guests..   we could hear little feet running up and down the hall when no one was there.. objects suddenly moving along the bench.. it was like straight out of a poltergeist movie...   Years after we moved out of that house I ran into my old next door neighbor  who said that the house had been sold three times since I moved out.. They said the place was haunted..!!!  :)

Crystal Sage, thanks for coming back to us.  I disagree with some of your references - they are simply not relevant.  Suggesting that bacteria can indeed survive in space for short periods (or even long ones), *might* be relevant except for one huge problem that you haven't considered, and that flies in the face of Wickramasinghe's out-gassings.  As far as we can see, ALL life on earth originated in one 'outbreak' - it can all be traced back to that first living cell.  ONE single outbreak of life at one location at one single moment in time.  That's it.  There are no branches of the tree of life that do not spring from that one seed.  So, if you want to claim that something came her from space, then it only happened once.  Please explain that.

We have ONE data point, and that one is it.  OK, let's assume life is prolific in the Universe - my suspicion is that we are probably not alone, but that life is extraordinarily rare - but let's pretend it's common.. Let's also assume it can jump ship on asteroids/comets/whatever.  Then surely it would be re-breaking out in new trees of life everywhere.  And it ISN'T.  So apart from panspermia being unproven in any way, you have to ask yourself why just once?  It makes little sense.

It does make sense that, as we know, getting the conditions exactly right and getting the chemicals together (and probably getting just the right amount of cosmic radiation) such that life arises in it's most primitive form, is incredibly difficult.  The chances of it are microscopically tiny, and that is perfectly well explained by what we see - just one example of life in our entire solar system, and apparently, any nearby stars.  We are it...

What is more, Wickramasinghe's observations of things that look vaguely like life, are ridiculously flawed.  He even accepts that many of his samples have had ample time to be contaminated with earthly organisms, plus NONE of the stuff he has found shows the chemical signatures of life.  It's not science, let alone good science. If anything it is just an extreme example of pareidolia..

They also found bacteria that thrives in zero gravity and no nutrients.. http://phys.org/news/2013-11-bacteria-zero-gravity-nutrient-environment.html   Could they have originated from some ancient panspermia from some meteorite or comet ?

Low =/= no

Anyway the experiment was done aboard a space shuttle, very unlike a comet.

The crew activates the Group Activation Pack-Fluid Processing Apparatus (GAP-FPA) by manually pushing down the plunger.

  • Eight FPAs can be housed in a GAP and activated manually or automatically. Manual GAPs can be housed either inside or outside the Commercial Generic Bioprocessing Apparatus (CGBA).

  •
  • If GAPs are housed within the CGBA, video, still imaging, and temperature control can be provided. The FPAs and CGBA are easily configurable and can be operated in a manner consistent with standard life science experiments.

  I hope they are not going to do another 'Pocahontas' with the diseased gifted blankets  and infect space with seemingly dangerous bacteria  before they start colonizing the planets and the moons.. :(

Astronauts have been shown to have an increased susceptibility to infection while in microgravity, making a deeper understanding of how these bacteria behave in space of particular importance, according to Collins. In addition to its importance in planning future space missions, the research also has important applications here on Earth. The conditions in space are similar to those produced within the human body on several levels. Understanding how bacteria thrive in space may also provide insight into how they develop once they enter the human body.
