The Viceroy butterfly is an animal that uses mimicry as a survival tactic. It looks nearly identical to the Monarch butterfly which birds find distasteful due to all the milkweed that the monarch feeds on during its larval stage. Birds avoid Monarchs and also Viceroys because of their close resemblance.

Plate tectonics are made possible by the Asthenosphere - which is a narrow layer of very liquid molten rock that the Lithsosphere (the layer of the Earth's crust that the continental plates are made of) actually "floats" on. The earth's plates move an average of 2 cm per year. (I just taught this lesson to my 8th graders yesterday so its fresh in my mind.)

Thats pretty sad. And even in those times of relative peace you can rest assured that there were plenty of folks being horrible to each other on a smaller scale. Wonder if we'll ever learn?

The term "Black Death" is recent. During the plague, it was called "the Great Mortality" or "the Pestilence."

Although the period known as the Black Death ended in 1351, the plague continued to return to Europe, with epidemics every few years through the end of the fifteenth century
