For the first time a rainbow of light has been trapped using a lens and a plate of glass using a technique that could open the doors to a whole new era of telecommunications and optical computing.

This is a huge discovery for the computing area as well. To be able to store memory by trapping light would make a big difference.

And two months later it is a weapon.

Or a counterweapon. Depending on the material, you could certainly use it to trap deathray beams. A shield ahead of its time.
