Do you not see a future in compromise? Can you not wish for someone to come along and unite us both. There are times when conservatism is a good thing and times when understanding can go a long way. We need moderation and the wisdom to know. Her daughter had a child out of wedlock but if it was Chelsea Clinton you'd be on here calling her everything you could think of. If Hillary ran on her looks instead of her brains you'd find all kinds of things to say. If Hillary were betrayed as a grizzly bear, it would be an unforgivable sin. Do you understand what I'm saying? Don't blindly tow a party line and think about what's good for all of us. We'll never see things eye to eye, but think about what's in the best interest of the common good and stop calling each other UnAmerican. That simply isn't true. We all need to be willing to work hard to make what's best for all the people.

Well thats all we have is a our party lines and our rhetoric...our Fox News and MSNBC...and for some History Channel Specials and crackpot conspiracy sites...and for others "well my dad/teacher/priest said..." because at the end of the day we are not political science majors, economists, generals, or anything.

Would you take medical advice from an electrician? No thats silly...but for some reason everybody pretends to be experts when it comes to politics and we listen to the words of other people who are no more qualified then we are.

Compare UM Politics to any other section on this site...some people here are arrogant and overly confident in their abilities to understand complex economics, foreign policy, political and social science, etc. and anybody who disagrees is met with aggression and this whole section is one big ego battle...never discussion, just hostile debate. Of course there is example of such attitude at times in every section it isn't as rampart and chaotic as it is here. There is no "In my opinion..." or "it is my belief..." in this section...just outbursts of logical fallacies and blatant poor form.

Discussing politics is just like discussing religion. Trade your priests and for your TV host...your holy text for your rhetoric...and the prophets for the politicians...but keep the same irrationalities, emotional outbursts, and general lack of knowledge. Easy example...take a Political Conspiracy Theorist and take the words "NWO' and "bankers" and trade them in for 'Church' and "knight templars' and bam you just made your self a Religion Conspiracy Theorist...because its often completely interchangeable.

yesterday I realized that this website is a paranormal website and decided to enter a different forum other then religion or politics for like the first time since I joined like 5 years ago...and was supprised that when talking about Aliens and Ghosts things actually somehow more rational.

Just checked my join date...two days is 5 Year UM Birthday! 5 years and still the same old unexplained mysteries, did learn a bunch though. But yeah nowadays its mostly about the lulz and those WTF moments.

Lets see 5 years ago I was 17, counting my time lurking and even before the then when I would stumble upon UM through Google i was like 15 when I first found and utilized this site...and 12-13 when I started discussing it with my brother and friends. So like a decade of UM related discussion for me. My first thread ever I think was about vampires...hung out in Ancient Mysteries and stuff. How I got to the seriousness and battlefields of religion and politics idk lol!

For me its not necessarily about believing again because I never really did, as I realize now most of what I do is not debate the topic or argue a point but often just end up helping form arguments or correcting flaws in form or logic. I can do that in any section, and the other sections are generally less hostile like I told this member that 'orbs' are just dust on the camera lens and she was like "ok didn't know that, thanks" and I was like what...aren't you going to call me a socialist or a bigot or atleast close minded or blind?
