chico del nacho Posted June 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2004 alright, even though i'm in bc and my vote is pretty much worth as much as a raindrop in an ocean, i'm still going to vote. still this is my first time voting and i haven't really had the chance to see or hear about many issues of the parties. so, i was hoping some of you who have been keeping track of things a bit better than me tell me anything i might need to know about any of the runners. thank ya. Daughter of the Nine Moons Posted June 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Chico I'm glad you are going to vote. There is too much voter apathy as it is. I think the Liberals are running scared judging by the type of campaign they are running. Dalton McGuinty in Ontario has damaged the federal campaign (my opinion-at least in Ontario). I will never again vote NDP. Voting Green Party would be just a protest vote. Therefore even though I don't agree with everything that the Conservative Party stands for they are my best choice. Talon Posted June 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Now I'm not Canadian, but I do like people who vote. Parties I found this site on Google which seems to give info on the parties' stand on various such as health etc
BurnSide Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 The conservatives, not only are they TAKING a womans rights to abort the pregnancy, and putting a halt on gay marriges and whatnot, they're just as bad as the Liberals when it comes to our absurd gas, hydro prices and ridiculous taxes. If i could, i'd be voting NDP, the lesser of all evils. But i can't vote. .. Sad really can you can't choose a party that you think will actually benefit you, only one that will harm your way of life less than the others. Daughter of the Nine Moons Posted June 17, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2004 The conservatives, not only are they TAKING a womans rights to abort the pregnancy, and putting a halt on gay marriges and whatnot, Burnside, I really think that that is Liberal fear mongering. Sad really can you can't choose a party that you think will actually benefit you, only one that will harm your way of life less than the others. True unfortunately. BurnSide Posted June 17, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Liberal fear mongering? I have no idea what that means sadly. But i do know they are against abortions and gay marriges. And i feel strongly that a woman should have the right to choose, and so should gay people. lol
BurnSide Posted June 17, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2004 hehe, could always vote the Marijuana party. Yes, there is a party called The Marijuana Party. Wonder what they're for.
jeceris Posted June 17, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2004 sorry i was over on another thread giving my two cents about this issue, didn't see this one till now. after the debate the other night, i am still part of that 27% of undecided voters. harper and the conservatives scare me, mainly for the reasons burnsy talks about, going after the charter of rights with the "notwithstanding clause" as harper stated the other night he wouldn't rule out. martin and the crooked liberals, we're never gonna see the money back from the sponsorship scandal, hrdc, and the gun registry, and no one is going to lose their job over it, loads of waste and no accountability. don't trust him and them anymore. ndp, huh... i have voted there before but layton comes across as some slick lawyer type, still with the same social conscience platform, but i don't like him. greenparty? never voted there before and i like what they stand for but they'll never get in. so i will look at the candidates locally, and decide amongst them. we're so tame in canada when it comes to the government doing wrong. i lived in london, england for a few years, was there when the government brought out the poll tax, and watched as the nation rallied and protested in a way so the government backed down, wish i saw more of that in canada and then maybe we wouldn't have all the broken promises surfacing after the election is over. jenk Posted June 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2004 I hate all the running parties. I read the paper every morning and watch the news at night and I despise the running parties. Luckly I can't vote yet so I don't have to decide which of these fools I want runing my homeland. If I could vote.......Anarchy all the way!!!! If you still can't decide who to vote for vote for me! Every vote for me saves a tree! Becuase every vote I don't get I'll cut one down !!!
Falco Rex Posted June 17, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Because every vote I don't get I'll cut one down!! That was classic, man. Really!
chico del nacho Posted June 17, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted June 17, 2004 lol i'm pretty sure the only way to get an anarchist party would be to overthrow the government...and the majority of people living in canada... and i refuse to vote for the marijuana party under any circumstances. unless they actually came to my door and paid me money. and also jenk, sorry, but my friend brad already demanded my vote to make him dictator. he told me if he can be hitler, i can be jesus so...sweet deal, eh? lol
Daughter of the Nine Moons Posted June 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 17, 2004 I've been sick & missed the debate. Unfortunately no one candidate appears to be the type of leader Canada needs. I will never again vote Liberal unless Justin Trudeau takes the helm of the Liberals.

Daughter of the Nine Moons Posted June 17, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 17, 2004 The good thing is that regardless of which party gets in it will be a minority government thereby minimizing the damage that they can do.
babyforrest Posted June 17, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Usually I know exactly who I want to win, but this one... I just don't know. It's the first Federal election that I have been of age to vote in, and I don't know. They all seem lousy. I agree with the statement that it's not about the best Prime Minister, but the one that will do the least amount of damage. I hate you, Dalton. Venomshocker Posted June 18, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Hmmm, Im gonna vote the Conservitavies. Hands down, they are the best party. I really dont like left-wingers, their economic policies are far to utopian, and they would just rack up the debt, faster than anything else. The liberals are corrupt as hell, and the NDP, well, hahaha, I have a story about those. There was a bit of a uproar here in alberta, one of the NDP canidates, my former English 30 teacher Mr.Malcolm Azania, posted some stuff about jews on forums, 10 years ago!!! It was all over the front page news, u guys hear about it!!!!???? Thanks my english teacher!!!!! Hahaha, hes a pretty cool guy, but man, those socialist ideologies will never work. Im curious, why do people think the conservitaves should not get in??? Oh, and just so you know, Im against gay marriages,('marriage' is a man-woman thing) and also against abortion! Womans rights, bah, what about the babys rights!!!???Theyre humans too, just smaller!!!!! Yea, I hope the conservatives win, and by the looks of things, I think their going too. jenk Posted June 18, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Ya know what I really want to see? The end of *note: this part of this post has been cut out becuase it consists of 10 pages of words that could be harmful to younger readers* Corperate sponserships to political parties. It sickens me when I even think about it. Parties get funds from a company who later will seek a profit from their investment and the parties almost always pay up hoping for more funds in the next elections! With corperate sponserships our democracy is in truth ruled by companies. You vote for which *not: this part of this post has been cut out becuase it consists of 30 pages of words that could be harmful to younger readers* partie you want deciding what companys should rule your country (I'm exagerating I know). Parties should not even need these funds, Canadians should read the paper and watch the news to decide what parties will work best for them, Do I really want my future government selling it's self to a company inorder to out some more billboards up to change my mind in their favour!? Venomshocker Posted June 18, 2004 #21 Share Posted June 18, 2004 (edited) Hey did anybody hear this? In order to decrease voter apathy, the federal government institued a new method, every vote contributes 1.75 dollars to the party you vote for. But thanks to Jean Chretien unions and corporations can no longer make large political donations. From now on all political parties will be funded on the basis of how many people voted for them in the last election using tax dollars. Your vote is now worth exactly $1.75. Whoever gets your vote, gets that money. Check it out: http://www.canada.com/national/globalsunda...c8-67d21ddcd787 Even a few hundred votes rack up $$ pretty quick. Now theres good reason to vote. BurnSide Posted June 28, 2004 #25 Share Posted June 28, 2004 I can't vote, but the girl went out and voted for the Conservatives. Why? Well, NDP are the only GOOD choice, but it's kinda like wasting a vote since NDP wont win. So, it's all for the conservatives just to get the damned corrupt money grubbing liberals out of office, and while the conservatives have some bad policies, i'm totally for them over the liberals.
