Still Waters Posted February 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2010 An Italian television chef has caused outrage in Italy by suggesting that people should eat cats. Beppe Bigazzi, a food expert on La Prova del Cuoco (The Cooks' Challenge), was suspended indefinitely after extolling the delights of "tender, white cat meat" on a national television channel. Mr Bigazzi, 77, recommended that the best way to prepare a cat was to leave it under running water for three days in order to tenderise the meat and then cook it in a stew. The suggestion enraged animal rights groups, with the Italian Animal Protection Agency calling for him to be sacked. Read more...
Cetacea Posted February 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) *shields eyes of kitty sat on lap* don't look! I guess in a way it would not be that much different to eating any other animal but on the other hand we have bred them specifically to be our companion animals, not lifestock, and we tend to go more for herbivores not predators (save in fish species) so at the best it is not an entirely natural suggestion Edited February 16, 2010 by Cetacea
Mekorig Posted February 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2010 While i recognize myself as a cat lover (i have three of them, one a kitten), i had to admit that any animal can be used for food. Social conventions makes us not to eat some of them, but under certain cirnscuntances, those social convention goes down the toilet.
RamblingRebel Posted February 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2010 I'm not offended about the virtues of cat meat, but I find it utterly abhorent to have your taps running for 3 days to tenderise the meat. It means I've bought a meat mallet for no reason!
MARAB0D Posted February 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Italy must be heading towards food shortages if such things started to appear on TV...
ohio traveler Posted February 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Sure. Why not ? A nice juicy cat sandwich. Cooked medium-well so there is still some pink inside. And maybe a side of tater tots. Yum Yum.
