Thanks Marby, that was interesting to read, gives me food for thought. :)

Thanks to everyone who answered my question, appreciated.

This thread is about as close to my 'sensitive side' as scanner gets, now I need to get back to being the real me, so I'm off to pick a fight with a large dog or something, flex some muscles and all that.....lol

@Scanner

As danielost said, I hope that she got the message for life because it seems she really needed to build up her self confidence. I think that a lot of women do, as mentioned already, gain or lose weight to please a man. I'm from a Cuban family and there are ten million little proverbs/sayings that revolve around the things that keep him from running off. At the same time, my parents, who were raised that way, grew up in 1960s America so it was a bit of a value clash. I'm glad that they instilled a lot of the Cuban values, but left those particular ones out. I was always taught that if you aren't happy with the person you are on the inside, nothing you do on the outside will matter. Everyone's self confidence takes some hits over time, but at some point, you have to be happy with the face you see in the mirror, accept that it will age, and know that it's not the only thing that makes you who you are.

I consider myself very lucky to have a husband that sees me as a whole person and not just a body, because every body has flaws and imperfections. He doesn't care if I wear make up or not, though I do because I like it and because just as he respects me, I respect him enough to want to look my best when we go somewhere together. It works both ways. I enjoy looking my best for myself, first and foremost, because it's a confidence booster, but I also love to know that my husband finds me attractive, so I do it for him as well.

S <3 <3 <3 we do have great guys.

Marbeautiful, this is very beautiful. I think you said it all here.

Its about confidence; it's this confidence that is what is attractive.

It takes time and maturity to get to this , and as you said it can sure be a big help/plus to our daughters and our sons; if we make this a central teaching, so they can enjoy more years of it. a strong sense of self, I love who I am all of me.I'd like to see a lot more men and women enjoy this sense of empowerment. It frees us up and our mates to just enjoy each other. The plus is a person who feels good about themselves gives this out, so they are generally nice/fun to be around...IMO.

My hubby also tells me the most attractive quality about a female, is her confidence.

@Scanner, any time! Forget the large dog. Go wrestle a deer for dinner or something. ;)

@S... Thank you. :D It really is self confidence. Self confidence without arrogance. That's the key. I think that's the main lesson kids need to learn.. boys and girls alike. We often ignore that boys have confidence issues as well when we talk about this sort of thing.

Yes! that is a golden yummy, 'with out arrogance. " A sense of self that is realistic, that embraces the whole person for who they are... Perfection includes imperfections.

Great point!:tu:

Thanks. I think that most of us that have been on this discussion know that, but it had to be said. Arrogance is one of the ugliest qualities a person can have.

Have you ever noticed, or maybe it's me, but when you meet someone that let's say, is attractive, but at first impression, more or less average, but as you talk to them, depending on their attitude, you can leave that conversation thinking they are either gorgeous or butt ugly? A person's attitude really alters perception.

It is nice to read that a lot of men do prefer curves. I'm thinking I should show this thread to a friend, or at least mention some of the comments to her. She seems convinced that to ever be loved she needs to become stick thin...

I don't disaprove, but really skinny waists do make me feel uneasy for some reason, I could imagine if I ran my hands up the side of her I'd feel all her ribs, and that makes me feel qwuizy (sp), and hungery for some reason lol. (I know, I'm weird, you don't need to say lol)

lolwut? Slim waists (in proportion to the rest of the body) is what men find attractive. A women with a tight tummy is also most likely going to be nice everywhere else.

Men, in general, don't judge women as being fat or thin. Rather, men tend to consider women with a 70% waist-to-hip ratio to be beautiful. E.g., a woman with a 21-inch waist and 30-inch hips, a woman with a 24-inch waist and 35-inch hips, and a woman with a 28-inch waist and 40-inch hips are equally attractive.[6] The 70% or higher waist-to-hip ratio, and the Golden ratio (62% waist-height-to-total-height ratio) indicate health and fertility.

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Relationships/How_Men_Select_Women

The body shape with the most attractive measures is for a clothing size about size 14, with 101cm hip circumference (in imperial measure, about 40 inches) 77cm waist circumference (about 30 inches) and shoulder width of 43cm (about 17 inches). These dimensions are for a woman about 163cm tall (5 feet 4 inches), which is the average for Australian women aged 25-44 years.

...

A waist-hip ratio of 0.7 - indicating a waist 70% as broad as the hips - is thought to be physically attractive in women because it indicates maximum fecundity and evolutionary fitness.

http://www.science.unsw.edu.au/news/average-women-more-attractive-than-centrefolds-study/

That is also the actual 'line drawing of body shape found most attractive in the study'. I wish they would have provided a real world example since it does seem a bit on the larger side to me.

This is an Australian size 14 mannequin compared to size 10 mannequins. I do not find the 14 attractive really...but I can see the proportions mentioned in the study.

Also it seems that women themselves actually find thinner women as the most beautiful (compared to men who prefer them average). It must be the feminine side of me that tends to agree with the majority of women, finding thinner women more beautiful myself.

American women chose thinner-than-average women as the most beautiful. American men prefer average-size women. Fashion models are thinner than porn stars.[7].
