Royal Navy Eight Were 'Snatched'

Cufflink

Recommended Posts

Eight British servicemen claim they were "forcibly escorted into Iranian territorial waters" before being taken captive, the British defence secretary has said. Geoff Hoon said the six Royal Marines, and two Royal Navy sailors, maintained they had been operating in Iraq's waters and had not strayed into Iran's.

The servicemen were held for three days sparking a stand-off with Britain.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, Mr Hoon said the MoD was looking into the servicemen's claim.

The men were equipped with GPS at the time of capture, making the original story of them getting lost less likely. The navigation equipment has yet to be returned by the Iranians.

I doubt they will ever see that again

I believe it...sounds more like it. Wonder what the equipment will reveal? I also think they were hard on those men; they looked scared.

Nope, I don't remember that, either. blink.gif

We used to be good pals with the Shah, before the Islamic revolution, but that's about it.

No I don't think that is the case. Maybe you are thinking of Kuwait?

I would execute thumbsup.gif those men, if I were in Iran place.(Just kidding)

Ofcourse they were spying on Iran,Iran is next on the list by the way.

What kind of GPS they had? made in India or they could not read it properly.

Eh? What? Eh? huh.gif

The men were Royal Navy personnel, not spies. If we'd wanted to spy, they'd have been SBS, or other special forces.

And the story is that they weren't in Iranian waters. It seems more likely that Iran was throwing it's weight around, snatching them from Iraqi water, just to show it still has a bit of clout.

So you saying Royal Navy personell is so special as to never do anything against

international law? They are just mercenaries who kill for the money Man!

Of course they are also heroes because they defeated Evil Saddam Hussein absolutely the worst man in history, worst than the Hitler+Stalin combined.

Listen more to what your Queen and uncle T. Blair has to say about world pollitics and you are on the way to die for Royalty/oilbarons

Ok.

Firstly, the article is not about the rights and wrongs of the war. It is about the seizing of three boats, and their crew of eight regular servicemen, in daytime, in another country's waters. If you want to discuss the war/Hitler/Stalin/ oil and god knows what else, there are plenty of topics more suited.

Secondly, when the UK wants to send soldiers spying, we send either SAS or SBS, in small craft, at night. We don't send regulars in broad daylight, towing boats behind them, for ****'s sake. rolleyes.gif

Thirdly, the accusations have some credibility, with GPS systems, which could show where the men were, being held back by the Iranians. Even MP's from the UK's Lib Dem party, which was strongly anti-war from the start, are voicing their annoyance with Iran over this situation.

That's all this thread is about. Not the war in general.

but they should be more carefull in the future,it is still war .and Iran is concerned that they will be soon attacked.

PS maybe Brits/US looking for pretext to launch a war on Iran?Tonking bay,Havana harbour,Lusitannia hmm.?

You need to read up your history mate, The US and the UK supplied IRAQ with arms and encouraged Saddam to go to war with Iran as Iran were seen as the troublemakers at the time with Khomeini at the helm.

Hear hear, what a t*t. Why do people comment on stuff they obviously know nothing about. Cufflink was right, if this had been an intell mission it would have been carried out by the SBS, AT NIGHT, USING CANOES, LAUNCHED FROM A SUB. These men (mostly) were far too young and fresh faced to be SC's (SBS). As an ex RN sailor (involved in many, shall we say, departments over the years), I know for a fact that the GPS equipment is carried by all personnel (Helo's/Boats) at all times, it's part of the basic kit. Point i'm trying to make is The BRITISH special forces ARE SPECIAL and would laugh incessantly at anyone who suggests they'd send boys to do a job in fairly large (compared to the type they usually use) boats, in broad daylight and store all their info on GPS. Don't think so. If you don't know how the British Royal Navy works, don't offer your childish comments. The British Royal Navy are not mercenaries and they do not kill for money, this view offends the crap out of me, they do what they are told. If anyone kills for money, it's Bush and his b**** Blair, MAN. Also if you think SH is worse than Hitler and Stalin combined, i'd say your probably under 12 years old!

That map is funny laugh.gif ...so is Saddam's cartoon. grin2.gif I read where the Iranians took those men by force out of Iraqi waters; I think this information was on tv, too. Maybe another reason they looked so scared.
