Larving Posted May 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) how are those shams? Back and neck pain are the domains of chiropractic but many chiropractors treat conditions other than musculoskeletal problems. With the possible exception of back pain, chiropractic spinal manipulation has not been shown to be effective for any medical condition. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18280103 While acupuncture is widely accepted as a viable method of healthcare, there are still serious questions as to whether it has any effect at all. In a study completed on 302 random subjects at the Department of Internal Medicine II, Technische Universitat Munchen, Munich, Germany, where acupuncture was tested against random puncturing of the subjects using needles without using any technique, no difference in the outcome was found. Practitioners of acupuncture claim that this field of healthcare works by interrupting the flow of a force called chiusing needles. As chi has never been observed or measured and no evidence has ever been produced to prove its existence, the method itself remains in question. http://www.nowpublic.com/health/acupuncture-sham-healthcare Not to mention, in Denmark there was recently a case were acupuncturists were found to inject MEDICINE into the patients using medical needles, without the patients' permission or knowledge Edited May 11, 2010 by Larving
