shrewgoddess Posted May 21, 2010 #51 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Now that's funny! Nicely done! Why thank you! And yes, I'd think that if you followed Zen Buddhism, you'd be pretty close to Jedi-ism ---- without the weird stuff.
chaoszerg Posted May 21, 2010 #52 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Jedi also have to be virgins. eqgumby Posted May 21, 2010 #53 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Recognised by who and recognised where? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jediism I mean, who do you NEED to recognize you, before you become a "valid" religion.
eqgumby Posted May 21, 2010 #54 Share Posted May 21, 2010 Wouldn't that essentially make it Zen Buddhism? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jediism Jediism is a blend of Taoism and Buddhism. Pretty close.
Enoonmai Posted May 22, 2010 #55 Share Posted May 22, 2010 Actually, it is called a type of force, life force, also known as vril energy. Supposedly you can harness its powers through meditation, kundalini movement, and the chakras.
Timid Ares Posted May 23, 2010 #56 Share Posted May 23, 2010 ....I can't believe you actually related this to star wars dude. It'll be a big mistake once ppl like mattshark come along. You'll cope though. Try to come up with a better name for the "force" and "jedi". Calling the kettle black eh? I recall a few instances where you related your abilities to Naruto and Dragon Ball Z. Particularly when you attempted "Biokinesis" on your eyes so you could become a "Sharingan." Whatever that is. In my opinion, Star Wars has much more credibility that some anime. OP, your heart is in the right place. I approve!

Jediism is a blend of Taoism and Buddhism. It also shares basic ideals with many other I'd say it was more influenced by Qabalah than anything else. A religion is a "cultural system" and does not necessarily need to have any kind of deity, though it usually does. As defined by Clifford Geertz. Not everyone agrees of course but I like what he has to say on the subject. http://ssr1.uchicago.edu/NEWPRE/CULT98/Geertz1.html Wiki disagrees but what does that matter - although Religion is derived from the Latin religiō, the ultimate origins of which are obscure. One possibility is derivation from a reduplicated *le-ligare, an interpretation traced to Cicero connecting lego "read", i.e. re (again) + lego in the sense of "choose", "go over again" or "consider carefully". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion
Mattshark Posted May 24, 2010 #61 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Just what cubby-hole would you put it in, then? KennyB Atheism is it's "cubby-hole" it is still not a religion. Tiggs Posted May 24, 2010 #68 Share Posted May 24, 2010 Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.
