Solipsi Rai Posted August 5, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2010 The chances of winning the California state lottery is 43 million to one, and it is nothing more than a voluntary state tax but only 20% of each buck ($1) goes to the state's financially devastated public education system (like the schools need it). If one wins the grand prize of let's say: $185 million: it is done in annual payments for 20 years afterward and about 60-75% of your earnings goes to taxes. Do the math: $185 million divided by 20 = 9.25 million x 0.65 = 3.8 million a year. These days, a million bucks won't buy you very much.
J.B. Posted August 26, 2010 #28 Share Posted August 26, 2010 Oh, but that three million a year could still cover your taxes for that year on a relatively nice, if a bit plain, home.
