Patrick Bernauw: In the city of Mons (Belgium), Saint George is killing the Dragon over and over again. His legend here is inextricably intertwined with the fate of a knight, Gilles de Chin, who in the 12th century indeed killed a “dragon” with his spear somewhere in the swamps of the Haine. In Mons, every weekend after Pentecost, St. George is ready to go and meet the Dragon one more time. The name of the ritual is also the name of the monster: Le Lumeçon.

St. George is dressed very strange in a yellow jacket and white trousers and with a nineteenth century French cuirassier helmet on his head. He is accompanied by six types of equally remarkable characters. All together they descend to the Grand Place, where thousands of people are trying to pull out a horsehair from the tail of the dragon or “The Beast”. This is a very powerful lucky charm.

Patrick,haven't seen you here in awhile.That's an interesting story about Gilles de Chin.In England they have several stories also of knights slaying a "worm" or some sort of creature.There is even a movie called Laire of the White Worm, based on this folktale of one of these knights.If they did encounter and slay a creature, I wonder what it really was. Any more stories from Belgium?

Actually the story of the battle of Mons during WW1 was instigated by Arthur Machen

who as you may see was a "Golden Dawn" member. After printing the story of the battle of Mons, in which the Archers who fought at Agincourt came to help the British soldiers pinned down by Germans, the same soldiers went forward in claiming they really saw the archers. And also note that the skull could easily be from an early type of bird that existed to the modern day. More likely than a true saurus imo.
