Are Imaginary Friends real?

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to talk about this because its really bothering me... When I was young I had an imaginary friend named "Josh". I liked him because he could climb on the walls and could sit on the ceiling. I can't remember how he looked but I feel as if he is still here, just being more quiet about it. I've seen him a couple times afterwards and its gven me quite a shock. I told my friend and he tells me to look up "Slender Man" and "Grinning Man". But mine is somewhat different from these. Mine is tall, about 8ft, very skinny but you cant see bone structure, he's very smooth looking with grey-ish white skin, he's naked... but had no... genatailia(sp), he has a big grin but not from ear to ear and its black, so no teeth, no tongue, he has no nose, ears or hair and his eyes are black, no white and very big. i've seen him countless times.

I've seen him one early morning watching me from the bottom of the stairs as i went to the bathroom... I seen him crouching behind the table... I saw him peaking from behind the porch (so i could only see the top outline of his head and eyes)... and i saw his shadow once in the backyard when the garage light came back on.

He seems to follow me where ever i go... how can I stop him from coming back?

I've had personal experiences with an imaginary friend before but those are pretty personal and I am ashamed to talk about it. BUT my uncle and his G/F's daughter, Sarah (not using real name) had an imaginary friend named "Sally". One day they walked into Sarah's room and it was flooded with water! Sarah said that "Sally did it". They tried their best to debunk it but there were no busted or leaking pipes, It never rained that night and the windows to her room are sealed shut and they just couldn't find any source where water could have come into the room from. very strange indeed.

Oh and I'm not sure how you can stop him from coming back. Maybe sage your house? Sage works wonders for me but it's nothing permanent.

Gah! ok i'll talk about my similar experience even though I am uncomfortable with it. I had this imaginary friend that stuck with me till I was 15 or 16. He had black hair blue eyes and was pale. I called him Koko. Last time I saw him I was dabbling in black magic and he kept telling me to quit. When he disappeared for good I saw his eyes turn into black pits and he kind of "dissolved" into the air...I never wanted to get rid of him though because he seemed good. But it was a scary image when he left...

Wow, I had a one when I was kid, but nothing like that. Mine was a cowboy and more of a friend. Your's sounds creepy. Next time you see him ask him who he is and what he wants. He might be a spirit of some kind.

Well I want to talk to him but everytime I try he's already gone... I also hear him whisper to me while im half asleep. The most recent was when i was in bed and I could hear "Are you listening?"... "Are you listening?". it didnt feel like it was outside my ear but almost like it was inside my head, but it wasn't like it was my voice, it was a man's. Another time was when i moved out and was renting a room. I was in my room on the computer and I could hear my landlord yelling at another renter downstairs. I opened the door and was about to walk down the hall but I stopped and it felt like someone bumped into me and somewhat went through me. But it stopped and i could feel it back up and I heard, in my head, "What are you doing?". I noticed this and went back into the room like nothing happened. But then I remembered what had then just happened and looked around thinking that maybe I'd see Josh but, of course, no one was there...

Can you please explain some experiences you have had with him?

Also, when you were younger did he just appear out of thin air, what did you do to see this thing?

well i cant really remember a lot when i was young but I know that I didnt have a lot of friends so I was very lonely and usually played by myself. Back then he was just a boy but I can't remember what he looked like. He just one day came to our trailer and then years later he left. But then I started seeing him again when I was about 13 or so. I was living in a house that my mom's parents sold to us. Early in the morning I woke up needing a drink of water. So when I went down I noticed the back porch (a glass sliding door) was open all the way. I looked outside, didnt see anything. So i closed it, locked it, got my drink and went upstairs to go to the bathroom. I left the door open since it was only me up and after I did my business I looked down the stairs and saw a face looking around the corner wall, staring at me. His name jumped into my head instantly and I froze. I could feel my heart pounding in my throat. He didn't blink, he didnt move, just stared at me with a big grin on his face. When I got enough couage I ran down the hallway and was pounding on my mom's door. She and her boyfriend at the time came out and we looked downstairs and in the basement. I showed my mom where I saw the face but it was no longer there. She says it was just the coat rack that I saw but when I turned off the light it didnt look the same whatsoever! That's one story.

Firstly, maybe it could of been your mind playing tricks on you because your were tired and you had just woken up? it also could be a shadow person.

I agree. And not to get technical but wouldn't they cease to be imaginary friend's if they weren't (as already mentioned) invisible? Especially if they stay with you as you get older or take on a strange form like that. It seems like at that point most people would assume it was something like a ghost/spirit or a mental problem. Not insinuating that's what it is at all, it's just odd. Imaginary friends are for you to manifest when like you said, you're a lonely kid or something. They're not supposed to show up out of the blue when you're not expecting it. Just trying to say that that's not an average imaginary friend and sounds like something else, what I'm not sure.

I too had an imaginary friend but the name I called him escapes me now as it has been 45 years since I have thought about him. Mine was a solid person just like me. At least this is how I saw him. When we moved out of that house my friend stayed and I never saw him again. I can still remember him though. Now that Iam much older and wiser, if I can use that word in fornt of what Iam about to say, I know he was a ghost of someone long ago passed to the other side. I have had many children (5) and each one of them had an imaginary friend and being the wierd woman that Iam, asked each one of them if they could see and interact with their friend. The answer was always no. Then they treated me like I was crazy... I know I saw mine and he had a face and a voice and he wore dark pants and a white t-shirt. He was a grown man though and that never really bothered me when I was a kid.

What yours is I dont know. It almost sounds "Alien"? I think we call up these spirits when we go looking for a friend. Not unlike the tales of people useing an ouiji board for the first time and then having weird things start happening afterwords. Children are more open to the paranormal I think because they havent really been told how to think yet. Maybe your friend just needs you to tell him to go away, you are grown now and thanks but you don't need him anymore. You dont need that kind of an attachment in your life and he needs to go.

well this ceature seems to be friendly and likes to play and be mischevious.but you cant get rid of a creature like that so easily.treat it as if you had a roomate living in your house then the next day you tell to leave he would be offended and  shocked.

I never had an imaginary friend but I've always had an active imagination. When I used to be a baby in my crib my parents couldn't figure out why I was crying at night when they would turn off the light in the room we all slept in. Finally, they saw I kept looking at the wall and the tree outside was casting a creepy shadow. Once they moved my crib and put darker drapes, I slept fine. Who knows what kinds of things my mind turned those shadows into, maybe hands reaching out for me, but in my mind it must have been real because I was crying hard enough. If it is a real entity, then it ceases to be imaginary. How about leaving out a pen and paper, see if it will write something to you if it doesn't speak...

Well i would state that they are "real" in the sense that they are "real" for you, the viewer in that they impact upon your life and decisions.

But they are only real in the sense that a halucination is real to the one who experiance it.

If your uncontrollably seeing an imaginary friend that you know doesn't exist, then you should probably go see a doctor or mental health specialist. There's no shame in doing it, as seeing things that aren't really there can become a serious problem.

I never had an imaginary friend when I was young. But being the weird neurotic kid that I was, I kinda did this thing where I would have a conversation with myself, but I always did it in a mental manner. I never talked to myself out loud or anything, and I was always by myself when I would think like this, because I would have a lot on my mind and no one around to talk to.

Yeah...I had an overactive imagination like that, but not in a good sense. When I was growing up, I would always freak myself out by thinking of totally ridicules and inane things as being plausible when they weren't. :hmm:<_<

I had an imaganary friend that looked about thirteen or fourteen. He wore a baggy green sweater and jeans, and he usually just hung around me, like he was just watching me. I usued to ask him questions, and he'd answer, but usually with just a gesture or a shake of the head. It took me a while to figure out what he was doing there, and I never did really, but he left me alone when my mom came home from work, or if we were about to have dinner, so I would open the door for him, and he'd leave through the gate. I stopped seeing him after I turned ten, when we moved into our new house, I started seeing him after about a week away from my eleventh birthday, he just followed me around, it got a little creepy... I used to read a lot about vampires and werewolves, and he usually told me to go to bed if it was late at night, so I would put the book down, and go to bed. I remeber that I stared talking to him again, so my mom used sage to purify the house, and I haven't seen him since. I used to think he was an angel, since we went to curch every week. :innocent:

  • 2 weeks later...

this still creeps me out now. my sister is 14 now, but when she was young she had an imaginary friend. My sister always played with this friend, sometimes she would even pull out chair at the table for the friend to sit. but there were a few VERY creepy things that happened. my sister was talking in her room once and i asked her what she was doing, she said she was playing hide and seek with this friend. I suddenly heard a knocking come from her closet (which weve heard before) and then my sister jumped up and said i found her!

it got to the point where my dad and i would ask her if she could actually see someone, and she always got defensive. she would say yes and point to a seat and say shes right there, cant you see her?

there were also times where we would hear the stairs creak, and my sister would look up the stares and say "she wants me to come upstairs and play". it was all just very very creepy.

but the part that makes it the creepiest to me was that my sisters always told us that her 'friends' name was Angel...

edit: im not saying im creeped out by angels, but it juts kind of gives this more credibility in my mind

My first suggestion is that you did create this friend on your own - so there is no reason that your mind, remembering that, can't produce him in a daydream every now and then...

But if you think it's paranormal, then all I can say is that you didn't seem to be worried about him when you were a kid and seemed to be amused by him. So if he is "Real" I would think that there is nothing to worry about...
