note: this is not from the Bl(A)ck Tea Society, we are just helping to get the word out.

This is not about getting one person out of power. This is not about replacing the president. This is not about replacing the cabinet. This is not about replacing George W. Bush with John Forbes Kerry. It goes deeper than that. This is about challenging the structure of the entire system. To some, simply changing the name on the door is sufficient. Frankly, that is not a solution. In fact, it is a threat. It leaves the vital problems of our society unaddressed, both on the local stage and on a larger scale. Issues of class, race, sexuality, poverty, gender, and environmental devastation pass by unnoticed from the tunnel vision of the political institutions.

In Boston, no solution is offered to prevent government plans to construct a Level 4 Chemical Weapons Lab in Roxbury. When the Democratic National Convention comes to town this month, millions will be spent on housing, feeding, and transportation of convention officials. All of this while the poor communities of our city still have no accessible public transportation system. While the homeless of our city freeze to death on the doorsteps of a corporate office building. While the governor of Massachusetts slashes the budgets of public services and cuts taxes on the elite. While the state of Massachusetts spends more on prisons than higher education. While the corporations take over areas such as Central Square and Kenmore, driving out local interests and community needs. All of these problems, and many more, lay untouched.

Plans to act against the coming Democratic National Convention have drawn criticism from those who would prefer to pretend that an election could possibly save us. Many groups are attempting to walk the line between protest and support, attempting to maintain their 'progressive' credentials while not having to actually take a stand. For some, it is easier to turn away than face reality. The reality is that the system is bankrupt, and has been for years now. Every moment spent on reform could be spent of building alternatives.

When the DNC invades Boston in July, who will stand up to them? Who will cry out in anger against not just this war for territory and money, but against every war for territory and money? Who will dare to say that we have enough of leaders and government and prisons and police and tyranny? Who will say that we will not support evil men? We need answers not diversions.

The gritty task of preparing logistics for this convergence has fallen on the shoulders of the city's anarchists and anti-authoritarians. From securing the convergence center to setting up the bazaar to coordinating Indymedia, legal and medic support, Boston has come through in fine fashion.

So now, with less than a month to go, the responsibility to say no to capitalism, no to war, no to poverty, no to racism, no to a police state, no to the elite will fall solely upon our community.

For those of us who are fed up with the state and all its co-conspirators, we have a unique stage to take action. For once, we can all respect and support each other's tactics. Enough with protest police and vertical organizations. We can set up autonomous zones and provide for our communities in ways that the state never could. We can defend ourselves. We can create something sustainable. We can create something new.

It's time to take the power back.

You have every right (in America) to create a covenant community. All the many cults in Texas are proof of that. The government, by and large, is fairly uniterested in people who wish to shut themselves away, as long as they do not break the laws of the country they are in (and that does include paying land taxes).

I think you will find that getting a group of like minded people together and setting out to create a political utopia of your own is well within your reach. I wish you well. If, however, you believe you will never have capitalism, war, poverty, racism, police, or elite, then I believe you are deluding yourself. There has never in the history of the world, in any of the animal species that have ever existed, has there ever been any civilization without the problems you spoke of. I have spent a good 2/3rd's of my life in countries other than America, and for my money, it doesn't get any better than this...but it does get infinetly worse.

Good luck with the revolution, though! thumbsup.gif

I went through this one with druidus.

If it was short lived, it was not successful. Sorry.

Let's not be simplistic. Anybody can come in and declare a party day. What makes a civilization succesful is its ability to withstand the test of time. Heck, even the soviet union's communism lasted longer than that.

Living in fear of being destroyed by the next country over is hardly what I would refer to as success.
