The attacks, which happened Saturday morning, were led by Haqqani network insurgents and were against Forward Operating Base Salerno and Forward Operating Base Chapman, ISAF said. Both bases are located in Khost province, a volatile region on Afghanistan's rugged border with Pakistan. the bloodbath continues....

acidhead Posted August 29, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted August 29, 2010 This too.... Taliban, some in U.S. uniform, attack two bases in Afghanistan Sunday, August 29, 2010 Joshua Partlow and Javed Hamdard, The Washington Post KABUL, Afghanistan – Insurgents disguised as U.S. soldiers attacked two U.S. bases Saturday in eastern Afghanistan and managed to breach the perimeter of one of them before being repelled, NATO and Afghan officials said. The assault began about 4 a.m., when dozens of Taliban fighters, some wearing U.S. military uniforms, launched simultaneous attacks on Forward Operating Base Salerno, in Khost province, and nearby Forward Operating Base Chapman, where a suicide bomber killed seven CIA employees in December. No Afghan or U.S. troops died in the assault, but four NATO troops and an Afghan policeman were wounded, and a 12-year-old Afghan boy was killed, authorities said. Two insurgents entered Forward Operating Base Salerno by cutting a hole in a fence, NATO officials said. The responses to the attacks were swift and deadly. Afghan security forces, along with U.S. troops, killed 15 insurgents at Forward Operating Base Salerno and six more at Forward Operating Base Chapman, and three others were killed by an airstrike as they fled, NATO said. Several attackers wore suicide vests. The attacks appeared to have been orchestrated by the Haqqani network, one of the most lethal Taliban factions, led by Sirajuddin Haqqani. His fighters operate primarily in eastern Afghanistan and have been responsible for violent attacks inside Kabul. Insurgents have laid siege to other heavily fortified U.S. bases this year, such as Kandahar Airfield and Bagram Air Base. But such attacks are rare, and insurgents generally fail to cause significant damage to the installations. acidhead Posted August 29, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted August 29, 2010 LOL... I suppose calling the 'insurgents' cowards for failing to wear 'uniforms' during 'war' is a non-issue now.

KingTomis Posted August 30, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2010 When i was there several months ago we had 20 suicide bombers wearing ACU's (US Army uniform) try to breach the walls of the compound I was at. They didnt do much other than be cut down crouched along the hesco barriers, they didnt bring a ladder and had no way to get over the walls

The Caspian Hare Posted August 31, 2010 #9 Share Posted August 31, 2010 They probably think we're cowards for blowing them up with UAV's from safely over the horizon. There's no such thing as a fair fight in war.
