Okay, where can I find the requirements for running for President? Syrian constitution? Government website? Anything.

http://www.hejleh.com/countries/syria.html#5

After the brief history, there are dozens of links from Syria that may have what you're looking for.

A quick look at Syria's constitution and I find this:

Article 3 [islam]

(1) The religion of the President of the Republic has to be Islam.

So much for democracy.

Well, it is 90% Muslim.

I would understand if it said the national religion was Islam (which it does), but requiring the President to be Muslim renders KoS's claim that anybody can run for any office utterly false. Syria is far from a democracy.

forgot to mention that .. coz my prospective of things not islamic

ones .. Anti-Islam people might make big deal of this

but the thing is 90% of syria is muslims that's why the prsident

must be muslim .. again ... you said democracy about majority

wasn't it ? or just because it was " muslim " which made it nondemocracy ?

90% muslims .. means they need muslim leader who knows and understand

people's view and opinion .. still we're not under islamic rule

we're republic country and am happy with that

any more attempts to make syria look bad ? :tu:

That makes no sense. Are you saying Syrian Muslims are only capable of supporting someone if they were Muslim too? I didn't know Syrian Muslims were such close-minded bigots. I wonder how you'd feel if Western countries banned Muslims from running for office.

You call it “leaders who know and understand people's views and opinions”, I call it an oppressive dictatorship.

I don't know of any.

There might be Muslims who have run for President, but I don't know any either, and I can't be bothered to look it up at the moment. But what matters is that they're allowed to run for President.

And Muslims can run for office and make their way to Prime Minister in Israel, too. In theory, at least.

That's not the point. By law the Syrian president must be Muslim. As far as I know there's no law that says the Israeli president must be Jewish. It's highly unlikely that a non-Jewish person would be elected by legally the chance is there. It is the legal issue that PI brought up and thus far you have not provided any evidence to counter this.

Do you really expect to be presented evidence by a conspiracy theorist who once seriously used the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as proof for his claims?

with other 4 books may i remind you :D

but of course you would never read any of those books

and don't wanna how your beloved israel ... killed palestine

and took their land by force ... yeah

the main foundation of israel was payed in palestine blood

but you indenial .. or just don't wanna admit your country

was formed of the killing of other people :D

maybe you outta check your beloved " israel " full of blood history

before you criticize syria ... your history not that bright

i gave you 5 books as evidence but of course ... you won't

reconize or admit to any ... that's human nature when they're indenial

this is exactly the point and even in syria the president is

unlikely a christian get elected here

the point is these laws are just ink on papers .. no more

you think a muslim will ever be president of israel ?

if you say yes then we won't have anything to discusss :D

same goes to syria ... since 90% muslims the president " must "

be muslim .. president represent the people ..

that means we have majority here but you guys keep denying your self

in the next posts ... first you say majority ...

we have majority agrees .. now you go around searching for anotherflaw

thing is .. syrian people are happy with their country and president

so quit your whining coz we adults here and can decide for our self

i suggest before crticizing syria a person should see flaws in his

own country ;)

Well if you're happy with the way your country is run than that's what's important. Though personally I'd worry about a day when I didn't agree and discover I no way of changing things.

"About one million Syrian workers came into Lebanon after the war ended to find jobs in the reconstruction of the country. Syrian workers were preferred over Palestinian and Lebanese workers because they could be paid lower wages, but some have argued that the Syrian government's encouragement of citizens entering its small and militarily dominated neighbour in search of work, was in fact an attempt at Syrian colonization of Lebanon. Now, the economies of Syria and Lebanon are completely interdependent. In 1994, under pressure from Damascus, the Lebanese government controversially granted citizenship to over 200,000 Syrians resident in the country. (For more on these issues, see Demographics of Lebanon)

The authoritarian regime was not without its critics, though most were quickly murdered"

Your multitude of smilies won't help you; they just irritate me.

You appear to live in 'fairy land'; as long as you have a good life, you are ignorant of the problems of the other people living in your country.

Your government is devious, and you appear to be too ignorant to even see this.

You appear to feel good, and that is why you defend your country.

But... are you really blind to what is happening to the other people in your country, those that do not like to kiss the butt of your big friend Assad??

We have a name for your kind, but I am not allowed to post it here.

And your understanding of English sucks.
