questionmark Posted October 2, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2010 WASHINGTON: Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography and his teachings on social justice through non-violence have helped US President Barack Obama shape his life, a senior US official has said. "Barack Obama, first African-American President and a student of those principles, identifies Gandhi's autobiography and Taylor Branch's terrific three-part biography of (Martin Luther) King as works that helped shape him," said Robert Blake, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia. "The President has repeatedly noted that Gandhi and King were among his heroes," he said while delivering the 27th Annual Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Lecture at San Diego State University in California. MichaelW Posted October 2, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2010 They're a socialist concept by the way. Is everyone in the entire world a socialist then? Ghandi was one of the most revered human rights campaigners in history. Who honestly gives a crap whether or not his views might be seen as "socialist"? Do you honestly think that every single person outside the United States is a commie?
Agent X Posted October 2, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2010 Nah. There's just a trend these days by Socialists to claim any concept used by other countries or before the advent of Socialism as Socialist. For example, electricity is a Socialist concept. So I'm just going with the trend. I like to be trendy you know. Sometimes anyhoo. If you can't beat them, join them.

I'm sure electricity was discovered around the same time or slightly after Karl Marx wrote Das Kapital but I really do think that you are grasping at very small straws to even suggest that anyone who calls themselves a "socialist" claims that everything came from them. Other countries have socialist concepts and I hardly doubt anything being imposed on the US would hardly be deemed "socialist" in the true sense of the word. Cradle of Fish Posted October 4, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 4, 2010 Because everything is a Socialist concept, duh. Except that god awful capitalism. I disagree. Without capitalism to oppose it there is no socialism. Ergo socialist concept.
Agent X Posted October 5, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 5, 2010 I disagree. Without capitalism to oppose it there is no socialism. Ergo socialist concept. Capitalism is a dismal failure and cannot cope with the power of socialism. Socialism rules the world. Yo.
