ManofTomorrow Posted December 6, 2010 #26 Share Posted December 6, 2010 There's been a few similar things like that around here in North-East England. Not anywhere near as noticeable though but I've heard some odd booms at about 2am (I work late) some nights and there's been nothing in sight. ThePitOfReason Posted December 7, 2010 Author #28 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Hello again it seems we have some more news from our part of town. Here is a news link to a fireball that was video taped not to far from me. It was taped two days after the loud boom that was reported. Oppono Astos Posted December 7, 2010 #29 Share Posted December 7, 2010 That is an aircraft with its contrails illuminated by the low sun; a bolide/fireball would be traveling much faster.

Coffey Posted December 7, 2010 #32 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Only if it is / was something to be concerned about............ Well something flying that fast or causing that sort of noise is somehting that should be looked into more. Unless of course they know what it was and don't want the general public to know. That is what I mean....Sometimes things can be explained , and are known , and are not even a big deal...Yet , they do not announce what it is......Kind of like they don't care if everyone knows that is any number of simple things , to busy to tell us I guess. IE : The Contrail in California.... By the way ( not going back in the thread) has anyone contacted the news channels to see if they know? Yellow Jacket Posted December 8, 2010 #36 Share Posted December 8, 2010 Arent there rocks Mountains hills and caves in western georgia?????Could it have been a large sinkhole(underground cave caving in) or a lagre boulder breaking or falling anything like that.....has anyone looked into that? That is the kind of thing that would have been reported, by now. Something so loud would have to have been huge. If you have ever seen Myth Busters, there is an episode where they were experimenting on something -I cannot remember what- but, it was the biggest explosion they ever had. I am going to venture a guess that the one my wife and (and countless others)heard would have to have been in that range. I mean, "Blow up a mountain" kind of rumble. I guess it would have to be a sonic boom. The big question now, is: "What made the boom?" We wonder if it was not of this earth, even. That would be cool (I guess)! Maybe not? Either way, it baffles us.

That would offer severe repercussions (sp?). I do not know. What I do know is that it happened. We also heard follow up explosions. I dismissed those as the fireworks display at Stone Mountain. My wife - who was incidentally outside, at the time - swears that it was not Stone Mountain. (For those who do not know: Stone Mountain park offers a fireworks display every weekend. We have heard this display every weekend for the past six years. The initial explosion was NOT Stone Mountain. The house shook, for Christ's sake!) She said the were too far off and from the wrong direction. Weird Stuff.

zombeikiller Posted December 13, 2010 #39 Share Posted December 13, 2010 i heard of a new conventinal bomb that has about the same strenght as a nuke. when it explodes it can be heard about 20-30 miles away i belive they said. and can be felt from people 10 miles away. i saw it on the milatary channle. it was tested off the coast of callifornia. in the ocean. and barley fitted in the larges airplane the us army had. and the sound from it can travel in a sonicboom. it's still being teasted to. if that can help. who said only airplanes go past the sound barrier anyways? d e v i c e Posted December 19, 2010 #41 Share Posted December 19, 2010 Large meteors exploding in the atmosphere can create that kind of noise. They're not that uncommon. That nobody seems to have reported the flash, could also be explained. I put my money on meteor.

museatlantis Posted February 19, 2011 #44 Share Posted February 19, 2011 I'm thinking a volcano maybe although nothing in the news about one going off. Either that or a plane breaking the sound barrier but I didn't realise the boom was so powerful to be heard for 30 miles
David Woodham Posted July 8, 2011 #45 Share Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Our outside cameras viewing our parking lot area at 10:22am show a pretty good "vibration." At the same time I ran outside thinking something nearby exploded. 10:23am, my wife calls my cell stating a loud explosion near our home. 15 miles away. Bethlehem GA. Given the amount of calls and reports ranging from Dahlonega to Bethlehem GA and the short time frame in which calls were placed to 911. ( approximatley 10min after "blast" ) This absolutley indicates a sonic boom from Miltary Aircraft or Meteor. Military Aircraft IE: F-22 / F-18 / F15 are based out of Dobbins and Warner Robins and would be likley candidates, however thier "flight paths" to and from bases are laid out like our highways or MOA' Military Operational Areas w/ designated altitudes. Also"speed limits." Most likley it was a meteor coming in large enough to punch through the upper atmosphere exploding at high altitude. This happens more often than people think. Certainly doesn't mean the end of the world ....yet. Edited July 8, 2011 by David Woodham
Dataslayer Posted July 12, 2011 #46 Share Posted July 12, 2011 Maybe it was a meteorite, but why didn't someone say "omg I saw a huge ass meteorite fly over me" or something? :/
