Very odd situation but it was also very local. Would think if it was the end of the world it would be a tad more wide spread. Betting it'll just be one of those weird weather phenomena that pop up from time to time. Throughout history there have been cases of various animals falling from the sky.

As I heard it, dead birds were falling in the US and Sweden. That is hardly localized but very spread out really. There certainly could be other causes but when you have reports stating it is the worst flu year in years, the fear of H5N1 does go up a notch. And rightly so perhaps.

Given that there's been zero word of any kind of virus I think you can put that notch back down. Besides what virus kills all its victims at the exact same time?

All i have to say its not from fireworks. I grew up in the country where everyone shot fireworks and weeks before the 4th. And they werent all the cheap amature ones. And while on new years a few might fire em (mostly they fire off guns). No to the same degree as on the 4th of july.

Ive also seen birds ram into things and die. Due to them breaking there necks. I thought the only physical damage was to organs. I didnt read anything on broken wings or necks. And if it was due to them being so stressed out they just shut down well why the damage to organs.

I don't suppose you actually read the article did you? Where it says the following...

Did i say what caused the deaths ? No i didnt. Its just another mass die off that may be normal and common by its self but when added with them others seems like mass deaths story are a every day event lately.

Edited to add :

Boony , I hit reply and you all ready had this posted ( great minds think a like )....

I am going to leave it , considering it seems not many can get it on the first read.

This is happening all over this thread , people are tossing out everything they can find , and 90% of them have the answer in the article , how conveniant they leave the important info out of their post.

---

I suspect that I only beat you to it because I was being far less complete in my response. Nicely composed my friend, very nicely composed. :tu:

I really wouldn't worry to much about it until someone can prove that these incidents are happening at a rate higher than normal.

Remember all of the shark attacks in US waters a few years back? Seems like almost every other day we were hearing about people being attacked and it created quite a panic among vacationers and ocean goers - actually cost some resort towns a lot of money due to cancellations.

Come to find out that US shark attacks were actually DOWN that year. The media loves to find an unusual incident and hype the hell out of it.

Except in this case it isn't the media at all. It's us, you and me and all the other forumites arguing over the same points over and over and over again (nods at Sakari). Because there has been virtually ZERO news coverage of any of these 'events' in the MsM. Regardless, I think you are quite right.

C'mon , I am not arguing one bit....I am giving facts and answering questions , others are arguing the facts , not me.

As for the group that just got merged into this one , most of the answers , if not all , are right here to the questions that keep coming up , over , and over , and over again....

Facts regarding fish and bird kills

I spotted a really interesting "Opinion" on another site (by another poster) which went like this --->

Their Theory is that "There are patches of magnetic distortions which can affect small animals sensitive to magnetic shifts which can lead them to disorientation and stressful confusion leading to their deaths. Birds and some sea creatures who ...migrate for seasonal mating or hibernating and more prone to this kind of behaviour."

It's a opinion , but considering there are facts for this , it is a wrong opinion :)

Birds Dying In Italy: Thousands Of Turtle Doves Fall Dead From Sky

http://www.huffingto...u_n_805541.html

When does this stop being a common thing ?

When you go back and read the information I posted right here : ( it does include a link to a place that shows bird deaths per year , and causes..Total is 1400 million or so...I do not think we are even close yet.)

Facts regarding fish and bird kills

By the way , Congrats on kicking Arkansas Butts in the Bowl Game !!!!!

I hope Oregon pulls it off......

Edit to add :

Will not have the answer for your latest bird kill for about a week , although they have some ideas.( nothing crazy )

the blue stains found in mouths of the dead and dying birds in Italy could be the result of poisoning or possibly signs of hypoxia.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic , and no offense.....

A movie gives more credibility than facts?

I think in this day and age , I guess it seems that way. :(

Did I say a movie gives more credibility? No I did not silly  i merely said it reminded me of the movie, in the begining when birds start dropping from the sky...

but as for my idea im gonna go with this :tu:http://www.suite101.com/content/earths-magnetic-fields-may-be-causing-bird-and-fish-die-off-a328353#ixzz1AEtsO8Pp

or the gulf crap

both fish and birds rely (sp) on magnetic fields. the truth is we really wont know whats causing it until all the tests come in but with cases coming from everywhere GLOBALLY its going to be a while :( poor birdies and fishies did anyone look at that map posted a few back?

http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/web0105-dead-animals1.jpg gives us a really better view on exactly whats being affected i hope it gets updated

Thanks for that link Ohio, I think that it is a pretty good summation of these events :tu: . Hype, especially from news sources should always be considered with events like this.

I hope Oregon wins too but I think they may have a tough time against Auburn.

Thank You Ohio ,

Do you know how good it feels to see someone finally give me a chance :)

I'm not so bad am I?

I am glad you did read that....That is the problem with this , people do not realise how often this happens , and has been happening through out History.

You made my Day , and now I don't feel like I wasted my time....

And , nice link :)

"You could not be more wrong , you are posting complete opinions , and no facts.

You are comparing apples to oranges , gulls can see better at night , so can Geese ( cannons used at airports for geese )...They are not lighting fireworks under the roosts of blackbirds now are they?.....This is a isolated incident , and the answer to ONE incident , not all of them.....

You are 100% wrong about starlings and blackbirds.....Do we believe College Professors that teach this type of thing and study it , or a post from you?......They CAN NOT SEE WELL AT NIGHT , this is why they flew into buildings , trees , windows , basketball backboards , etc."

I dare you to try to walk underneath a starling roost at night undetected. I'm a birder. I know. Hell,

to see me in action being a birdbrain (you'll laugh cuz it's funny). In addition to crows, I also call ravens, hawks, eagles, squirrels, predators, elk, deer, moose, etc with my mouth and voicebox alone. You can trust me on this. I KNOW birds. A college professor in his office or lab knows less than outdoorsmen who are outdoors consistantly and in conditions too adverse for others.

In my opinion, you are accepting the official and prosaic explanation simply because it is what you feel you can accept. In other words...you are closed minded.
