Still Waters Posted January 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2011 Compulsions drive people to do very strange and unusual things. But eating couch cushions? That may very well be the strangest yet.Adele, a 30-year-old woman from Bradenton, Fla., recently came forward on a TV show about her bizarre taste for foam materials. The woman is featured on the TLC program "My Strange Addiction" munching on bite-sized pieces of sofa stuffing -- and even going so far as to prepare snack-sized servings of couch cushions. Fluffybunny Posted January 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2011 Sounds like Pica...the urge to eat things that offer no nutritional value. Dirt is common, pencils, paper products...you name it.
AdorablyDead Posted January 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2011 I agree with fluffy. I think that that show has already shown a woman who was addicted to eating at least three sticks of chalk per day. I wonder if couch woman suffers from cotton mouth? Foamy material sounds like it'd make you thirsty.
Robert1 Posted January 23, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Wow. That's strange. I'm surprised it hasn't killed her yet.

xYlvax Posted January 23, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2011 I used to eat grass sometimes as a child. I also ate a dog treat one time because my dad somehow convinced me that it was a bone shaped cookie. lol
Ms. Anita Cigarette. Posted January 23, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2011 I watched that the other night & start top consider it myself. Looks appetizing. JOKING! That's weird. Strange how certain traumas from childhood effect us as adults in subtle & sometimes extreme ways.

mattryan209 Posted January 24, 2011 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Wow thats strange.Almost as bad as eating metal, yuck.I would think eating the foam would be extremely unhealthy. She'll probably end up with cancer if she doesn't stop that disgusting habit.I have a nasty habit of chewing on pen caps a lot especially when I am stressed, but I would never think about swallowing them or making them into a meal-Yuck. Odin11 Posted January 24, 2011 #14 Share Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Some of the people on this show are only eating wierd things so they can be on tv. They think that as long as they're on tv it's cool, no matter what it is they are doing. Edited January 24, 2011 by Odin11
Nadia B. Posted January 24, 2011 #15 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Wow, and I thought that chick I used to know that ate all purpose flour from the bag was weird. BTW, the article mentions Pica. -WOLF-12227- Posted January 24, 2011 #16 Share Posted January 24, 2011 Sounds like a cry for attention, and these days all it takes is some self harm, idiotcy, and perhaps disfigurement for good messure.
