Syria clamps down on dissent with beatings

Yeah, I really wish all the dollars and meddling would stop. We can't bring any of those people into a democratic free society. They'll have to do it themselves.

Its guna affect you wheather you don't help or not.

Or maybe they know if they get involved the protesters will automatically side with the Syrian government, no matter what was done to them, in other to fight off the foreign invaders.

Plus as it has been pointed out no one in Syria asked for any outside help. Those in Libya did.

I agree, once the Syrian people go to the media and ask for Western military aid, then we should intervene.

So....and what's the point? If the end result is the same, shouldn't we save our effort?

Hama is under attack ... tanks and army

it's the revenge for peaceful protesting in the city for long

19 people died already and around 30 wounded and it's not over yet

people are gathered to trying to keep the military out ... UNARMED

they're shooting unarmed people

Iam sorry Knight for the death of all these unarmed civilians. A regime that turns against its own citizens loses any claim to legitimacy, and will eventually fall. However, judging from the experiences of Egypt & Tunisia,Syria has still a long difficult road ahead. I hope in the future that your people will learn from the mistakes of both countries & avoid the pitfalls encountered by Egypt & Tunisia.

no **** it's still long they're killing children with knife they're not human

they're using strange type of acidic bombs in my home town countryside

but luckly they weren't able to invade the city due to the people of that city

countryside rush to their help and cities around it build roadbloacks

to keep military away from it

and among all this through all this it's still " peaceful " protests

no weapons used by protestors not even to self defense

just simple military groups that refused to shoot at their people

have clashed with security to protect the people

and these are more common the more bloody it gets .. the more military disobey

and choose to side with people

This is brutal and inhumane! Assad senior turned his tanks on his people, like father like son, only junior descended into new lows.

Eventually, this is how it will end. The generals and higher rank officers will ultimately be faced with a choice between continuing to back and obey Assad, or risk a mutiny, or a coup, within the army. Self-preservation, if not humanity, moral principles, or patriotism will help convince them that it's time to side with their people. Maintaing unarmed resistance can only speed up this 'moment of choice', effectively disarming the regime, while avoiding irrevocable damage to the relationship between the people and the army; and Syria's chances of a peaceful future. Whichever way, Assad's days are numbered. Courage!
