Persia Posted March 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2011 (Reuters) - France believes there is enough support at the U.N. Security Council to pass a resolution on Libya on Thursday and military intervention could take place within hours of that, senior French diplomatic sources said. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/17/us-libya-un-french-idUSTRE72G8GR20110317

acidhead Posted March 18, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2011 I have a feeling there is going to be many more now dead because of western involvement. We don't even really know who the rebels are, who we are now siding with and providing military support. Some troll out there is saying, "We're providing humanitarian support!" Yeah?.. Well if that is true than we'd be providing military cover for the Ivory Coast right now but were not. Why? Because our leaders are deceptive con-artists pursuing their own private personal interests.

Corp Posted March 18, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2011 That's more or less true. I'm sure he'd be condemning the US if the resolution failed. Anyway good on France for helping to push this through and I'm pleasantly surprised that Russia and China didn't veto it. Now the question is now effective it will be and how quickly can it be put into place. I've heard that France is ready to go and other NATO members and the Arab League have promised to provided fighters.
dazdillinjah Posted March 18, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 18, 2011 Well it looks like a major achievement made by this UN sanction as Libya has just announced an immediate ceasefire to all its military activity ..hope that humble pie is tasting nice Mr Gaddafi !!!! nevertheless hes a tricky customer and he made sure to use his military to do as much damage to the rebel freedom fighters before the sanction came through.. furthermore the ceasefire is just words right now & doesnt necessarily reflect whats happening on the ground
ships-cat Posted March 18, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2011 Hmmm... France is going to intervene ? Why not Egypt ? It's a neighbour of Libya, and the 'rebel' areas are close to its border. It has a large and modern air force (certainly by African standards), including F16 fighters. meow purr

I agree, there is reports of heavy fighting after the ceasefire, isn't that what Hitler done? He said he will stop and then he continued.

Plus the Egyptian military is likely too focused on getting their own country in order to take the lead on the no fly zone.

Paracelse Posted March 19, 2011 #17 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Looks like France volunteered to enforce it. French people are wusses, so their government might want something they couldn't enforce if their lives depended on it. Not to mention Juppe whose interests are perhaps not the best for the French, he has his hands so deep in other people's pocket http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_Juppe I still wonder how this man who should be in prison for life is still free.
