EU to ban cars from cities by 2050

Cars will be banned from London and all other cities across Europe under a draconian EU masterplan to cut CO2 emissions by 60 per cent over the next 40 years.

The European Commission on Monday unveiled a "single European transport area" aimed at enforcing "a profound shift in transport patterns for passengers" by 2050.

The plan also envisages an end to cheap holiday flights from Britain to southern Europe with a target that over 50 per cent of all journeys above 186 miles should be by rail.

Top of the EU's list to cut climate change emissions is a target of "zero" for the number of petrol and diesel-driven cars and lorries in the EU's future cities.

Unless some new technology pops up in the next few years I don't see that happening.

by 2050 there probably won't be enough oil left to go round anyway.

Blinkin' nora, by 2050? There's some long term planning, or long term paranoia about Draconian EU Legislation, depending on your point of view. Anyway, surely by then, the oil would have long run out, so probably cars would only be used for essential use or as playthings for the rich, much as they were in the early 20th c.

I live in Berlin, and I don't need a car, and I was never in need of one. Well, except for a move maybe. We have a very good public transportation system, and can get nearly everywhere with trains or trams. I also love riding my bike, so I would love the idea of a car free city. Just think of how quiet it would be!

Here is a video funded by monolithic corporations and large banks, including the likes of Bank of America, Time Warner and Royal Dutch Shell, the Forum for the Future NGO released a video bragging of how the elite not only plan to ban private car ownership for all but the most wealthy, they also seek to imprison malcontents who don’t conform to the new eco-fascist system within squalid ghettos while those who do submit have every aspect of the lives controlled by super computers and a nanny state on steroids. This is much bigger than not driving cars.

Oh, what a surprise. The NWO's behind it. Well, frankly, if they are, then this is one initiative i thoroughly support them on. :)

Is there anything that isn't a Fiendish Plot to Enslave the Masses? Are they behind the wedding of Prince William and the lovely Kate as well? :unsure2:

They say he is the Antichrist, don't you know?!?

I don't see a plot behind this. We all would have huge benefits from living more eco-friendly. As I said, I don't need cars anyway.

Go ahead a make fun. These people have layed out city plans that make 1984 look like a good time, and you still want to keep your eyes close. Alternative energies already exist, why dont they just convert, instead of planning to hoard everyone into cities where they can control every move you make? Decide what job you have? Give you "traveling credits" ect ect ect.

the EU will be nothing more than a distant memory by 2050.

I would think electric cars would be commonplace by then making a prediction like this a bit pointless.

Not as long as the batteries are too toxic to safely dispose of. At this point, that aspect of electric cars not really too eco-friendly. Really the battery toxicity is worse for the environment in the long term than the air pollution from internal combhustion engines.

I agree with the statement by stevewinn concerning the existence of the EU by 2050. At least in it's present form.

You really believe that? You're aware of how much money is made off of cars and fuels aren't you? The funny thing is that this is way out of the interest of big business and if the video was funded as you say it was then it's a PR stunt to make them seem like they care about the environment not so they can enslave humanity. In fact if that was the plan you really think someone would so easily be able to find out who was behind the video?

Now, did you even read the title of the thread. This is nothing to do with banning cars but banning them from cities (protip: the last emboldened part is key). Funny thing is, it's a good thing! Cities in Europe have very good public transport (buses are cheap as Hell, Taxis vary but aren't too bad and the underground isn't too bad either - though that's just London). Why should someone drive around the city polluting the air when they could just implement a much more advanced public transport service (the current one wouldn't be able to handle the amount of people) and with less competition for fuels it's fair to assume the transport would be much cheaper too.

Also, let me quote one of the first pieces of text on the page 'Top of the EU's list to cut climate change emissions is a target of 'zero' for the number of petrol and diesel-driven cars and lorries in the EU's future cities'. OMG! NWO IS CLEARLY BEHIND THIS! OMG!

People mock you because your claim was ridiculous not because they're sheep. Though my whole argument shows that I'm just a sheep, right? ;)

this NWO **** is probably advanced by the big corporations to fudge the issue surrounding emissions.

Sounds like a good idea to me to be honest, it would mean good and cheap public transport and cleaner inner-city environments, unless they somehow manage to royally ham it up.

MMM did you even watch the video?

And yes, its very easy to find out who made the video. They are not even trying to lie about it. Do your research.

Ive known LONG before they made these plans public, through a number of sources that the elites end game plan is to dramaticaly reduce the population and heard everyone left in to big cities, where everything you do is controled by them. First through the IMF and a one world currency, that eventualy will be controled totaly by a one world government.

People mock you because your claim was ridiculous not because they're sheep. Though my whole argument shows that I'm just a sheep, right? ;)

What else Would you call someone who willfully blindly endorces thier own enslavement?

In the first place this sort of thing has been suggested almost since the car was invented.

To come to a decision like banning cars from the cities will not work since there are those who (Like our prime minister) aren't going to be crushed into a train like in Japan.

I mean the very thought.

Electric cars will not solve anything since you have to charge them up. The power they use is from the National Grid which is expensive to produce and heavy on pollution. (Take your pick of Nuclear or conventional powered stations.)

Next: where do you set the boundaries for the said city? Most of Britain and Japan for instance are almost one large city or urban area already!

People like cars because they are convenient. It's not convenient to wait for a bus in the pouring rain and then have it drive straight by because it is full.

A culture of driving the kids to school has grown up around the car

Recently the city where I live decided to spend a few bob on promoting using cycles. They annexed parts of the road for cycles = cycle lanes.

First and for most there is hardly room on a lot of our roads to accommodate two cars let alone fill them with buses and push bikes as well. Next there are the hills most of the city where I live is built on steep hills! Motor cycles could help ease congestion but the government has all but banned there use by making it so difficult and expensive to pass the test for a licence.

If they were to ease restrictions on mopeds back to what it used to be then perhaps there would be more takers.

However we are spiraling back into the other thread on population here.
