EIGHT MILLION mummified dogs is excavated

Big Bad Voodoo

Recommended Posts

A labyrinth of sacred tunnels packed with the mummified remains of millions of dogs has been excavated under the Egyptian desert.

The catacombs are estimated to contain the remains up to eight million dogs, many of which would have been offered to the gods when they were just hours old.

Others would have been treated as living representatives of the dog or jackal-headed god Anubis and would have lived out their lives in the nearby temple before being preserved and laid to rest in the network of tunnels.

That's damn weird. What the hell were the Egyptians doing with all those animals? Ancient Egypt probly smelled like wet dog. Gross.

8 million? That's a huge number of mummified dogs. I am curious to know how close that estimate will really be.

Btw, when I read the title it registered in my head as, "Eight million mummified dogs escape". I freaked out for a second!

With the amount and time it takes to mummify I have to question the number as well.

Probably some crazy priest having 'visions' about dogs and then "Hey! Lets kill all the dogs everybody! :)"

Maybe they kept dogs as pets and used a single spot for their burial.

They may of used dogs to help with secruity as well, and possibly to help with work.

It is a bit weird considering there aren't many dogs in hieroglyphs.

If they could place a 1 ton stone every 4.5 minutes for 20 years to build the Great Pyramid, mummifying one dog per minute for 15 years should have been no problem.

Whew! Could you imagine the dog population now, had they not mummified all those dogs!? They must've wanted alot of dogs in the afterlife!

If they where mummified it means they liked dogs not disliked them.

I was under the impression the whole reason they used mummification was to help allow the continuation of their existence in the afterlife? If they didn't like dogs they would of just burned them.

The idea of 8 million is staggering though. Would make a great horror movie

Fascinating and strange news. Surely there must be 8 million cats closeby waiting to be discovered? Plenty of secrets yet to be uncovered! :w00t:

Am wondering if Egyptians let their dogs defecate everywhere like us more civilised folks?
