Bracket Posted May 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) In the DC comicbook universe, the Green Lantern Corp. is essentially a galactic police force with over 7200 members who patrol the 3600 “sectors” of the universe. Each Green Lantern possesses a power ring and power lantern that gives the user great control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. The rings are an inconceivably-advanced technology that allowed their wearers to project green beams of energy with which the bearer could conjure objects of any size or shape, limited only by their imagination and willpower. Within the last couple years, it has been revealed in the comics that there is more Lantern factions based on the Emotional Spectrum than just green. The colors of the Emotional Spectrum are harnessed as power sources by various organizations wielding power rings. The Emotional Spectrum is divided into the seven colors of the rainbow, with each color corresponding to a different emotion: rage (red), avarice (orange), fear (yellow), willpower (green), hope (blue), compassion (indigo), and love (violet). Rage is an emotion that's closely related to the primal instincts one needs in order to survive. In instances of fight-or-flight response, rage would embody "fight." Love is the most pure emotion, but also "powerful and just as distorting as rage." Though these emotions are overwhelming, they are not negative if used correctly. Willpower (the emotion central to the spectrum) is the ability to maintain control over one's emotions and grow as an individual. Hope embodies a spiritual quality that emerges from that awareness, and compassion is described as an even more difficult emotion to explain that is more rare in today's society. Many characters in the DC universe have been offered a ring that matches the raw emotion they feel the most. My question is, if you were offered a power ring, what color of the Emotional Spectrum do you think it would be, and why? Sir Wearer of Hats Posted May 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Indigo. Although the "tribal styled" costuming might be a problem.
Bracket Posted May 11, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Indigo. Although the "tribal styled" costuming might be a problem. That isn't just because you want to be with Carol Ferris (seen in the pic) is it? lol
Sir Wearer of Hats Posted May 11, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Indigo are the ones with the staves, not the ones in the stripperiffic costumes. I always imagined a male Star Sapphire to be dressed like Fabio on those Mills and Boon covers, with arm braces and boots in the SS violet crystal look (I'd still stick him in that silly mask thing the women have as well). vitruvian12 Posted May 11, 2011 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Why does willpower count as an emotion?
