'Deadly' spider forces family from home

Still Waters
A spider found in a bunch of bananas forced a Merseyside family to leave their home after they learnt it could be one the world's most poisonous.

Mandy and Darryl Ryan and their three young children moved out of their house in Crosby for eight days.

Mrs Ryan thought the spider was dead and before it ran off she took a photo of it.The picture showed it could be a deadly Brazilian wandering spider.

The family moved back in after Mr Ryan trapped it in a sandwich box.

He wore protective gloves and used a small mirror to look behind kitchen units at the family home on College Road North.

ROFL! That was funny, you made milk come out my nose!

On a side note, when I stayed with a family in Australia they used to let Huntsmen spiders live in their house as they would kill and eat poisonous spiders and insects!

I hate spiders but my male flatmate and my husband hate them more. They ran off down the hallway a couple of nights ago and left me to deal with the huntsman, all to them screaming KILL IT! I caught it in a lunch box and threw it outside.

btw it was only a 10c piece size huntsman.

You have to check you fruit and vege for these kinds of things, you never know what you might eat..

I saw a bit on them in a show once and it mentioned how they put their front legs up like that to look scary and be angry and whatnot. So wrong. So, so wrong. And I can tell you, if I found that it my house I would never sleep soundly again. *Backs out of thread slowly*

Also, I think you've contributed to the nightmares I'll be having tonight Nibs, you and your spider pics...:P

Three black widows have been found (and killed) in my home. I didn't run when it crawled on my bedroom wall; I smashed it.

If I were the guy that caught it I'd have sneaked the sandwich box away when they weren't looking and put on it's place, tipped onto its side and the lid off.

You know I have a lot of respect for this family for not flat out killing the spider, as I feel like most people would have. In fairness, the Brazilian Wanderer is one of the most venomous spiders in the world. What bothers me is that I thought companies had started fumigating their fruit before distribution to prevent this, as Brazilian Wanderers love to hide in bananas.

Oh, and while everyone's on the spider topic, I have a Black Widow in my basement right now, and I'm leaving her well enough alone. She's not bothering me. :)

Spiders are not that uncommon in my house, fairly large ones too. I've seen at least three different types of them apart from the usual ones, One is brown and quite large, it looks like to a recluse spider to me but is a little bigger. The second one is lighter in color. The 3rd one has a fat butt, black and is very small.

I'm not really the type who's afraid of spiders or scorpions.... but... It's grass hoppers, crickets, locusts, stick insects and most of all, Mantises... really give me the heebie-jeebies man. I evacuate the room as soon as i see one.

You know, contrary to their namesake, Birdeaters actually do not consume birds...that often.
