Newly Found Species of Bacteria

Persia

Recommended Posts

A newly described species of bacteria has joined the ranks of those of us who depend on caffeine for survival. The little microbe, Pseudomonas putida, uses specialized enzymes to break the precious compound into carbon dioxide and ammonia, scientists say.

I wonder if it is that bacteria in our system that causes caffeine cravings??? Or the caffeine withdrawal headache...?

Researchers found P. putida living in a flower bed at the University of Iowa.

Do gardeners have greater caffeine cravings...???

Bacteria ‘drunk on coffee’ could pave way for universal disease cures!

Scientists at University of Iowa have identified four different bacteria that can survive by consuming caffeine, one of them being Pseudomonas putida CBB5.

The scientists believe that the discovery could pave the way for converting waste from leftover coffee, tea and even chocolate into useful substances like pharmaceuticals, animal feed or biofuels.

Interesting too that this bacteria seems to be drug resistant... as shown in some research of peritonitus... and tonsilitus

http://www.waset.org/journals/ijabs/v1/v1-1-4.pdf

Peritonitis due to Pseudomonas putida in a Patient Receiving Automated

The

aim of the study is to identify the molecular mechanism of the

multidrug resistant P. putida among the isolates.

total of twenty tensile biopsies were collected from

children undergoing tonsillectomy from teaching hospital ENT

department and Kurdistan private hospital in sulaimani city. All

biopsies were homogenized and cultured; the obtained bacterial

isolates were purified and identified by biochemical tests and VITEK

2 compact system. Among the twenty studied samples, only one

Pseudomonas putida with probability of 99% was isolated.

Antimicrobial susceptibility was carried out by disk diffusion

method, Pseudomonas putida showed resistance to all antibiotics

used except vancomycin

So using it to create new drugs....could it cause more problems...?

I wonder how they found out it's interaction with coffee? Did someone spill a cup of coffee over some research on some P Putida sample? ;) Found that it caused the bacteria to be more supercharged with it's caffeine hit?

It seems that many yeast infections are said to be aggravated by caffeine... a fungal stimulant???
