itsnotoutthere Posted August 14, 2011 #401 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Err... I’m not Polish. Croats rarely immigrate to UK, it would be too long and boring to explain why, but in short, it has something to do with recent history and the fact that Poland (like Bulgaria or Romania) is in EU, but Croatia still is not and we have certain arrogant former colonial power to thank for that. Colonialism is gone, but arrogance remains. And does a lot of damage. Yes, I know, it’s too complicated and too obscure. So I’ll drop it. Back on immigrants. I actually think Slavs (that includes Croats and Poles too) shouldn’t emigrate anywhere. We have our countries and we could shape them up. Why we haven’t done it so far belongs to conspiracy section, but also has something to do with non-ambitious nature characteristic for our cultures. I know you probably don’t care, but I felt compelled to explain, for those who actually know the difference between Croatia and Poland if not for you. So, was that looting festival immigrants’ fault? Or your government is too busy banning hanging flower pots because someone might fall down while watering so they have no time for internal affairs? Or was that simply the greedy and destructive human nature, found in any nation? I’d bet it’s the third, with some second, but then again, maybe you could enlighten me? "I actually think Slavs (that includes Croats and Poles too) shouldn’t emigrate anywhere. We have our countries and we could shape them up." Agreed. "but also has something to do with non-ambitious nature characteristic for our cultures." Agreed "Or your government is too busy banning hanging flower pots because someone might fall down while watering so they have no time for internal affairs?" I think you may have something there. If they were a bit more realistic about the true nature of some sections of our society & were a little less forgiving then this problem may never have arisen. "Or was that simply the greedy and destructive human nature, found in any nation" Ymay also have a point there too. Apparently this sort of behaviour happens in certain sections of American society too. http://laearthquakeblog.typepad.com/los_angeles_earthquake/2011/01/looting-after-a-disaster-is-it-ever-ok.html http://barkgrowlbite.blogspot.com/2011/08/la-cops-gave-looters-free-hand-in-1992.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s0cMobdFMY
Kazahel Posted August 15, 2011 #402 Share Posted August 15, 2011 Kazahel your mind wanders off............ into some really funny places LOL! Yes true. Right now its in . I found it just then and liked it, I felt it was somewhat fitting to what I said earlier. Yeah. People getting hurt and/or killed is real good way to spice up things. Whats a matter with people these days? I cant explain it very well but I tend to think of everything as a learning experience for everyone. So 'bad' things I see is a way of teaching, which means there is not really anything bad(when people are learning). Sometimes I forget this in the heat of the moment but I tend to come back to this thought.
Doc Socks Junior Posted August 15, 2011 #403 Share Posted August 15, 2011 First of all, aren't flash mobs those cool dancing groups that do random things in public unexpectedly? I think the news reporter just seized on the phrase. Alright, got that off my chest. Now, I have a funny picture. And it makes you think a little bit. http://memebase.com/2011/08/11/memes-london-calling-from-my-iphone/?fb_ref=sharetestC_v3&fb_source=profile_oneline
+susieice Posted August 15, 2011 Author #404 Share Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) I know- good luck with this, but as of Friday there is a curfew in Philadelphia. Anyone under 18 must be off certain streets by 9PM or face arrest and a fine. In other parts of the city it's 11PM. Parents will be fined on any second offenses. There were 50 arrests on Friday. Will try to find a better link. http://articles.philly.com/2011-08-13/news/29884340_1_curfew-arrests-police-van-evers Editted- Here you go. If I may also add, Mayor Nutter is a Black American. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/127684748.html?cmpid=15585797 And, of course, the poll results. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inq_ed_board/Poll-Teen-curfews.html?ref=more-like-this&127321668=Y&submit=Vote&mr=1&oid=1&pid=127321668&cid=8500281 There's been a lot of shootings lately in Philly too although I don't think it's kids doing it. Me thinks their version of poor, & actually being poor are two different things entirely (unless they mean morally, ethically & intellectually). Order66 Posted October 10, 2011 #408 Share Posted October 10, 2011 I'm listening to Ben Ferguson on the radio. He likened the London riots to the Wall Street protestors. Good analogy?

Order66 Posted October 10, 2011 #410 Share Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Really!! are the wall street protestors a bunch of low life thieving scum as well then? No but I think Obama would love for it to turn violent so that it will be taken more seriously, so the media will start waxing about the deep socilogical roots and people will genrally be intimidated into following his agenda. I'm not saying Obama wants to see people get hurt, but I think he is a product of the 60s and he sees this an effective path to change. Look at how many times he has had conflict with other politicians in Washington and what does he do? He gets in front of the camera and tries to rally the crowd against his opponents ( comments like "Do they not have time? They just had a week off!" ). That's the only way Obama knows how to get anything done, Mr. Reach-Across-The-Aisle as long as they are all Democrats, otherwise screw them. edit: When the riots broke out in Egypt, Obama thought it was the greatest thing ever, only to denounce it later.
