simple in my opinion.

loudspeakers plus news bulletins etc advising that after a certain time anyone on the streets should be fair game.

its sickening to think this is the new generation that will be replacing us.

just as Lottie said, give them the tools and the right to do the job properly.

How can we expect authority to rule when police are having to stand there and be bombarded without equal retaliation...makes no sense.

Police cells all over London apparently completely full..16000 more police on streets tonigth being pulled in from other parts of the country, which then leaves potential for other parts of the country to be open to riots...whats the point in this when we have morons like Teresa May talking about 'Policing by consent.'

My daughter works for Phones 4 U in a town about 18 miles from B'ham...

She texted me earlier and said they have been told to clear all the stock from the

shop front and hide it upstairs! And they will be closing early.

Apparently the police are expecting it to be twice as bad tonight!

Whilst I agree that these rioters should be handled appropriately with force, as soon as the police go in with any kind of force, they'll be strung up and slaughtered by the liberal lefties who will conveniently shift all of the blame for these riots off the criminals who are causing this and onto the government for whatever is flavour of the month.

10 or 20 or even 50 youths in isolated incidents would maybe suggest a soft but firm approach, but these are reaching high hundreds to possibly over a thousand given all the areas currently being attacked and destroyed by these thugs, this is way out of control the UK needs it's army deployed with copious amounts of tear gas, rubber bullets and fire hoses set to full blast with slippery soapy eyestinging water.

Bring them down!

There can be no lawsuit entertained and martial law and curfews need to be enacted until the police and army get the streets back. If there are public outcries against such measures they can only be crocodile tears, cars, buses, buildings burnt to the ground, stores looted by thieving little brats and innocent bystanders terrified, robbed and assaulted by rampaging thugs - what more justification does the govt need exactly?

I hope all our UM friends in the UK are safe and well.

I understand why they would want to but I fear that they are thinking with their testosterone and adrenalin - a recipe for disaster, don't care what they do to the thugs more that the thugs will end up maiming or killing someone's father or brother who was just trying to protect his family by doing what the govt isn't prepared to do.

Being a West Ham fan i've been hearing the same, but only from them, sure there are others thinking the same though...sounds good on the surface, they've certainly got the balls to protect an area, but I suspect they'll just hamper the police, allowing the real culprits to mingle away into the crowd...

This is no longer anything to do with the police shooting a gangster in Tottenham. It is nothing to do with police and community relations. It is nothing to do with police racism. This is about 30 years of a liberal ineffective education system. This is about people being allowed to behave as they wish without any consequences. This is about pandering to to peoples rights with no regard to responsibilities. This is about a criminal justice system that is totally ineffective and that holds no fear for criminals. This is about failing to imprison violent and persistent offenders.

This is the legacy of Blair, Brown, Cameron etc. This is the legacy of the liberal hand wringers who just want to help all these poor offenders and never set boundaries or consequences. You reap what you sow. The blame for all this will no doubt be pointed elsewhere. Last week the police were criticised for being too hard on protesters. This week we are too soft. When the ashes are raked over this will need a wholesale change in policies not just laying the blame at the door of the police, a la MacPherson.

This is not a popular uprising such as the Arab states as some cretin suggested. This is about 2% of the population who have been taking the p*** for years with impunity from the justice system. The police can sort it out but the liberal hand wringers might have to accept baton rounds and a few cracked skulls. If you cannot accept that then let them carry on.

believe me if millwall or west ham come up against these mobs of 'gangstas' the football lads won't be the ones walking away wounded.

Itsnotoutthere Yeah keep telling yourself that it's not a popular uprising against the Establishment and not about race issues at all. When they shot a black man down for what exactly saying he had a gun and the only bullet that said came from a non police issues gun actually did come from a a police issued gun. **** even I see a big fat lie and I usually defend the police as my dad is a police officer. So I may be a liberal but I'm not a sucker or a sheeplt who is in his own made up world were nothing is wrong.

Reality has a liberal bias get over it and grow up.

These riots aren't against the establishment and it's not about racial issues, it's about looting and getting some free s*** whilst they can.

The UK isn't like America, people don't just wander about with guns unless they're planning to do something with it. Also, it's not at all been proven that the bullet was from a police issue gun. Not proven at all.

Perhaps the family of mr Duggan can tell us why he was carrying a handgun around the streets of London....yea, a real pillar of the community.

Over the past 14 years I've lived in Tottenham, Brixton, Bow and Walthamstow. This is not about race, nor really about police harassment. Its about poverty. Its no coincidence that the areas that have flared up contain some of the poorest areas of the country.

While I'm not defending the actions of the last couple of days, at all, you wouldn't find this in an area where the young population had a decent education and support in finding work. You just wouldn't. I'm willing to bet that the majority of those fighting left school young and have never worked.

This is what happens when people are given nothing to care about.

Thanks for the background. Bit hard to figure out the antecedents of this, as far removed as most of us on this forum are from it. Scale of it is a bit surprising though.
