The double-snouted piglet

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

Meet Babe, the pig who was born with not one but two snouts. And while it might sound like a joke, it's no laughing matter.

The two-month-old - part of a litter born on a farm in Deshengtang, Jilin province, northern China - can use both his mouths to eat and appears otherwise normal, say his owners.

Farmer Li Zhenjun and his wife Yu Wanfen named the piglet Xiaobao - or 'Babe' in English - after the movie about an extraordinary talking pig.

China has few regulations when it comes to genetic engineering, wonder if it has anything to do with that?

Naw, it'll adapt. Once his neck becomes stronger to support the weight, it'll be fine.

Somebody needs to get this pig and have it stuffed. Collectors go crazy for these animals with defects and pay the big bucks for them if they are stuffed and mounted correctly.

This is due to the genes overproducing a gene called Sonic Hedgehog(no joke). There is an opposing force to this called Cyclopia where not enough SHH is produced resulting in things like this.

there has been no record of any cyclopia animals surviving.
