Government Should 'Butt Out' Of Gay Marriage

What was said in the OP about Ron Paul reminded me of Barry Goldwater, who was always against government interfering in personal matters.

IMO, all advantages to being married should be negated, if we're gonna play this game about who gets these advantages and who doesn't.

Only then would any argument against gay marriage have any credence. At least in that case, they wouldn't be able to claim that this or that advantage was not being extended to gay people.

The government can't ever take away something once it starts giving it. Or it won't at least. This is why it should never have started giving anything to any specific groups to begin with. In the end I suspect everyone will be given something, democratic governments can become very powerful by progressing to socialism, as well as it being a naturally progression.

Two conscenting adult humans should be allowed to marry if they want. Who would it hurt if the same rights were extended to gay couples? Heck, it might even stimulate the economy a little.

Ive been married for 8 years now. Id like to know what federal benifits other married folks have received, cause I know I havent gotten any.

Having kids is where the benifits kick in.

You can find the general breakdown of benefits here, including the federal ones.

Your point in italics would be relevent IF sex education was taught as regularly as any other subject. When I was in school we had two lessons on sex education years apart, so that amounted to, what? Two hours of my school life, maybe a little more. Now that is nothing compared to other lessons (we got more than 2 hours a week on science, english, maths, etc). Sex education amounts to an extremely small portion of the schools time and any child's learning experience. On top of that most of the time there is a consent form sent out so if parents don't want their child to be in it they can just say so.

As to schools ahving a hard time teaching anyway, well that's a very different subject and there's many differing factors as to why that should be (ie the subject's boring, the teacher's not very good at teaching the subject etc).

I do agree, though, that's it's not the states job to be parents. However sex education is about educating and parents may not have all the facts to begin with. And while there are other sources, some aren't reliable.

Oh man, you got ripped off. We got sex ed instead of gym for a few weeks. It was like Christmas time at our school.

But the world has changed a little since then. All us older ones just bite our tongues when the topic of gay marriage crops up.

Well, Mr Right Wing, you get props for being honest. :tu:

Old dogs can learn new tricks, though. . .my dad used to be a total fire and brimstone homophobe. His own sister is a lesbian, and he would never let me visit her or spend time with her because he was afraid of it "rubbing off" on me or something. Of course, I still had a lot of gay and lesbian friends. . .one of my best friends in high school was a lesbian, in fact. I'm sure he wasn't happy about it, but he kept his mouth shut whenever they were around for my sake. For whatever reason, now that he's older, he's lost his old beliefs somewhat. He still doesn't like it, but he no longer cares about gay marriage or anything like that. It was probably one of the most dramatic turn arounds I've ever seen in a person.
